Once upon a time, in a quaint and peaceful kingdom, the Mushroom People lived happily under their ruler, the wise and compassionate Princess Toadstool. Their carefree lives were turned upside-down the day the Koopa, an evil tribe of Turtle People, invaded. With foul magics did they stake their claim on the Mushroom Kingdom, transforming the Toadfolk into harmless bricks and plants, and stealing away their fair princess. All seemed lost... until a pair of unlikely heroes stepped forth to oppose the wicked coup of King Koopa!
