Melon Collie

A long time ago, before even old-fashioned sounding words were words, there lived a collie named George.  He was fairly normal, as far as collies go.  Most of his time was split between sleeping, eating, and sniffing fire hydrants, and he never experienced the urge to do anything strange or out of the ordinary.  That was, until the grocery store ran out of water melons. 

You see George loved water melons, and if they were not in his house at any given time, he immediately would fall into a state of depression.  This caused George to find the last remaining water melon in his house, in his secret safe.  He cut holes into it, and slipped it over his head like a shirt.  He took one of the pieces, and perched it on his head, as if it were a hat.  Then off he went, on a journey to find more melons.

As George traveled across blistering deserts, frozen tundras, and raging oceans, he told his story to the natives of each land he crossed.  But no matter how much he looked, he never found a single water melon, so for the rest of his days, George was always mildy depressed.

And so, the word Melancholy was created, as a tribute to George.  And to this day, his story is still told around campfires, where no matter how stretched it may be, will be remembered for ages to come.
