I suggest you step it up a notch and try using mcskinedit (downloadable at the minecraftforums.) It's a little more professional, lets you build from scratch and previews in 3d for you. when you get good with skinedit, get a copy of Gimp (a free photoshop clone.) The stuff you can do with gimp is amazing! If you want to see work that's been done in skinedit & Gimp, check out anything by Halucid or Studnicky. Both those guys are what I consider to be pro skinners.
