Robert MacGregor, better known as Rob Roy, was a famous Scottish outlaw in the late 17th and early 18th century, turned into a folk hero and often associated with the first set of Jacobite risings in Scotland. He was immortalized by the Walter Scott historical novel named after him, by a couple of famous films, and by a number of statues and historical sites in Scotland.
