If we turn the term "Sickness" into a person what do you get? You get a guy who's droopy or down low, dark.  It's Hair is a mess because it's too sick to care. The shirt is damped with sweat, the usual you'd get from sickness. Insomnia waves over them with nausea, leaving their eyes burning red.
