GAFE (Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales) is an Mexican special forces unit, that was formed on the occasion of the Mexican football World Cup in 1986. It received basic training with training weapons and counter-terror tactics from the French GIGN. The GAFE is trained by special forces from all over the world. The unit is divided up into regular, intermediates and veterans: regulars operate as an elite light infantry, intermediate members are mainly instructors of medium rank and veterans from the high command are responsible for the most delicate undercover operations.
