Yeah, but I like to keep things simple by just picking one of the networks a show is on or has been on and going with it

Thanks for the advice :3 I've seen a lot of people do that. My thing, though, is that it's a Minecraft skin. Everyone will be able to read that difference immediately because they all look the same. Look at Steve. Alex. A zombie. Nobody's ever had a readability problem, so I think that, if even just for accuracy, skins can be good without that, though sometimes I do have to use some shading just to add extra shaping when the second layer fails me

I have! My thing is, I don't shade. First and foremost, I try to make my skins look just like the characters they're based on. Since I do only cartoon characters, I rarely run into actual shading. I don't shade exactly to preserve that resemblance to the character. But second: I'm not very good at shading, and I don't think I wanna try it. Skinning is very relaxing for me, and shading sounds boring and tedious, so it would probably just ruin skinning for me. I also like to release lots of different characters and respond to lots of requests, but if I shaded, skins would take a lot longer and I wouldn't have the motivation to get to everyone. But seriously. I do love unshaded skins. It's that simplicity
