Bulgaria joined the central powers in 1915 to invade Serbia, and eventually sealed her fate. Eventually, the Romanians attacked Dobrudja and the Bulgarians stood their ground. Over a quarter of the population of Bulgaria, 1 million soldiers out of a population of 4 million were mobilised. In 1918 however, Bulgaria was defeated along with the central powers.
