Better Helmets is a small resource pack that removes the "nose-guard" between the eyes on Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite Helmets. It also raises the bottom of a turtle shell so your eyes can be seen.

It also makes netherite helmets use the same shape as other helmets in this pack, so your face is much more visible. The item texture is the correct shape (provided by Vanilla Tweaks) - see media gallery.

if you want, you can delete the files at /assets/minecraft/textures/models/armor/netherite_layer_1 & netherite_layer_2, and /assets/minecraft/textures/item/netherite_helmet.png

I'm working on my own pack at the moment. How did you remove the nose guard? I removed it from netherite_layer_1 and it still isn't working, though other changes I've made to the helmet work.

netherite_layer_1 is indeed the way to change it. are you sure you are modifying the right part of the texture? if you compare my texture and the vanilla texture you can see which part needs changing.
