Suddlety is a work-in-progess OptiFine resource pack I'm making that aims to improve, enhance and change the look of Minecraft in the subtlest of ways. This pack is built on the idea that less can be more, and the slight nuances and new appearances I'm implementing are my vision of making Minecraft look a little more faithful to real life.
The changes in this pack are stemming purely from my opinion on the game's look.
This is only one of the changes I'm putting into the full pack, which I will be uploading in its entirety as a separate pack in the future.
This particular pack is my change to polar bears in the default game.
OptiFine
This resource pack requires OptiFine for the model to be implemented into the game. Get OptiFine here.
Note: Even with OptiFine installed, the pack will function only with the setting [Options > Video Settings > Quality > Custom Entity Models: ON]
Game versions

Seeing the screenshots, the polar bear cub seems a bit off, so checking some actual pictures of polar bears, I've come with some suggestions. Maybe making the snout on the cub smaller, and also less dark than the adult snout. (I have the feeling that Minecraft forces the texture of the adult in the baby, so if it isn't possible to make them different I understand)
Also, with this new and improved head, I feel like now the polar bear looks a bit bottom-heavy, I would suggest maybe making the back of the mob a bit smaller. And maybe also a bit thinner, so it feels not that chubby.
Another possible way to fix it would be to divide the body in 3 cubes instead of 2, making the 1st and 3rd cube the same size (maybe the 3rd slightly bigger), and the middle 2nd cube a bit smaller than both. (Hope I'm explaining myself properly)
Another easier option could be to make the head slightly higher.
All this said, I understand if none of my ideas are taken, I like your take on the polar bear, this is just my opinion on how I would improve it.
Now, to your first point, you're right about Minecraft forcing the same texture/model to baby mobs. If I could change it, believe me, I'd jump at the chance. However, due to the themes of the pack being to stay as close to vanilla as possible, I feel that even if I could make new baby mob models, it wouldn't feel much faithful to the game. Maybe I'll make a separate sister pack to Suddlety with different baby mob models and textures for every entity in the game, once I learn how.
To your second point, it again only comes down to the aim of making the subtlest tweaks to pre-existing mobs and their models. I agree that it does look a little bottom heavy, but the shape of the head and snout of the vanilla polar bear was what seemed the least natural, or rather, bear-like to me. I did like your idea to raise the head a little, though. I raised it by just half a pixel, and honestly to me, it did make quite some difference. I've updated the pack already, you can feel free to give me more feedback on it if you want.
Retaining the vanilla feel is what's most important with the pack, so I'm trying to maintain most of the original shape of the mobs, which we're all familiar with. I've had ideas of making wolves bigger, bees smaller, cows, sheep, and pigs having completely different head shapes to match newly-added mobs, and so on, but I've had to restrain myself because it would take too much away from the vanilla game for this pack. I could, of course, make separate packs with these more drastic changes in the future, though. Thanks again!
Nice pack.
