A slightly different take on reworking the Observer to be readable from any direction:
this version also makes the face more visually distinct from droppers/dispensers.

Version 1.1 has been substituted:
this has been tested in 1.20.4, 1.20.1, & 1.13.2

The previous version [​1.0] did not access the textures in 1.20.4 (but did in 1.20.1 & 1.13.2), details below…
If anyone can explain why this occurred, it would be appreciated…

FIX for 1.20.4 is done
The post will be updated as soon as voting finishes


Renaming files to, for example, observer_top_powered.png (and adjusting the json accordingly) works,
BUT
changing the file name (and the json reference) to SM_observer_top_powered.png does NOT
  although it works fine in 1.13.2 and 1.20.1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If anyone reading can explain this 'feature', it would be appreciated...

I couldn't get this to work, so I've ranked based on the images. Your idea is unique and very helpful, observers have generally always been a nightmare for me especially considering how much they come up in redstone farms. Nice job mate.

Sorry to hear that.

What happened when you tried it?

[I tested this successfully in both 1.13.2 and 1.20.1 with the only change being the pack format number
1.20.1 is 15
1.13.2 is 4
]

Not 100% sure what the issue was, if I had to guess it has to do with models as yesterday my model for frogspawn didn't line up correctly and it gave me the no texture thing, in this case, the observer had the no texture thing. (Purple and black checkered block.)

I wouldn't think that would matter (beyond you're getting the made for a previous version warning) but wil investigate…

Texture not found (the black and purple) seems strange unless there is another pack/mod that also modifies the observer.json and observer_on.json files so that the finished install is not looking for the file names I used. (Although I would expect anything that did so to contain alternaitive files that it would use. )

If you find how to solve this please publish

I will, I had no other packs on at the time, so Im not sure. its really odd i looked in ur files and they seem fine
