Based on the Winchester m1897 pump-action shotgun. The gun replaces the crossbow. Crossbow references are changed in the American English localisation. Same as with the Double-Barrel Shotgun it has a full animation cycle with shell-ejection but new is variations. There are a total of 5 variations:
Sadly the variations can't be implemented via OptiFine CIT meaning I can't do so you can rename the crossbow for example "Trench Broom" and then you get that model instead of the standard, instead you need to extract the "Trench Broom" zip inside the resource pack.
To install the pack:
1. Unzip the downloaded file inside \AppData\Roaming\.Minecraft\resourcepacks\
2. Enable it in-game.
To change variation:
1. Open the unzipped downloaded file.
2. There you have a number of zips and pictures. Just unzip the variation you want inside the folder you are in so the \assets\ folder in the zip overwrites the \assets\ folder inside the resource pack.
Optional - To revert to the standard just unzip the standard variation.

If you haven't seen, there's an additional file in this project of a Winchester Lever Action Rifle which might scratch that itch a bit though.

You should make a bigger pack like with muskets or other weapons maybe WWI or WWII I'd love to see it

If you haven't seen it yet there's a temporary link since I was too lazy to make a new post for the lever rifle, and I also have another post for a double-barrel shotgun.
I do want to make that! I've figured out the method, but it doesn't work with CIT (anvil) and instead with commands. Pre-world war and world war weapons I am certainly interested in making. I'm just struggling with making it work. I have tried some with the command strategy but it's not working right yet.

and also is the cit for the preview versions of optifine 1.17.1 are off?
there's one already but its a dead pack for 1.12
