1. whats thumbnail.png and why the heck is is 2m+ bytes, the thing makes my entire file explorer stop responding as soon as i click the zip file......

thumbnail.png is the primary image, associated with the texture pack on Planet Minecraft. It's a 1920x1080 picture, 2.4 MB, which shouldn't be a problem for the File Explorer.
Anyhow, I'm sorry you're experiencing troubles, I've make sure to remove the image from the texture pack folder.

This is one of the most awesome rainbow packs I've ever seen! By any chance, could you give me any info on how in the world you achieved the dotted rainbow style in the actual texture to make this work? I was thinking of trying to do something similar to this but with the other enchantment glints as a base

My program of choice is the freeware Paint.net.
I used a plugin by pyrochild called Random Shape Fill and generated an image that kind of looked like this:



Then I blurred it, played around with the colors, and put it over the vanilla glint texture. This is what it looks like in my texture pack:
