I think you need a certain animated texture for mcpatcher to change it and it only works with mcpatcher.

Obsidian should be green, so for like the nether portal, it would be like entering a pipe

isnt the portal texture the blue square in the first line in the terrain.png? atleast thats where ive known it to be lol
