You have one fatal flaw: You didn't include tops to the GUI screens! You know where you see the word chest, inventory, or furnace? Why don't they look like tops to the windows?

This was a sacrifice, yes, but trying to implement it made it look bad, since the text can't be made smaller. You would have a small 4 Pixel band across the screen with bigger Text on it that wouldn't be visible because it's dark grey and I can't change that.

The only places I could implement it were the game mode changer and the achievement screens

If you are referring to the GUI that switches your game mode, that's actually a vanilla game feature you can access by pressing f3+f4! :)
