Mickey Joe's Relatively Improved Default (RID) is a pack I made initially just for personal use. At one point I made a Reddit post with a screenshot of what I had made. The post got a surprising amount of satisfying feedback so I decided to try to turn my work into an actual pack.

Everything in this pack is free to use for whatever you want. I can't take credit for the textures as they're based on textures Mojang made.

Here is my Google Doc changelog. You can also see what I'll be adding to the next version.


So go ahead and download the pack, play with it, and have fun! Or don't. I can't tell you what to do.

  • Added 3D ears to all humanoid mobs that were in need of ears.
  • Villagers can now spawn with either green, blue, or brown eyes.
  • Slightly tweaked the texture of the pufferfish entity/items.
  • Moved the contents of the “mcpatcher” folder to the “optifine” folder.
  • Grass now overlays podzol.
  • Slightly tweaked the squid texture.
  • Updated the sticky piston item model.
  • Temporarily disabled the llama CEM model, because of an OptiFine restriction.

Do you have a 1.12 download somewhere?
I'm not seeing any alt textures of animal mobs, aside from chickens. Have they been changed / removed?
I see that they are removed rfom looking in the files : (

Eventually, yes, but I'm trying to hold back on adding stuff to the pack because of the pending default texture overhaul. Everything I add right now will have to be revamped after 1.14, and that's not something I'm looking forward to. 😛

In the future I also want to only add random variants for mobs depending on which biome they spawn in, as that makes much more sense when looking at real-life variantion in animals. That's why I added wild boars and highlader cows in colder biomes.
I made an account to tell you how much I love this pack, I love the cute little models for animals, the way grass and sand blend, and the way tools seem to break! I read the upcoming features and I cant wait to see them! Keep it up :)

Can you make an alt no model but just texture change version?
Just don't use OptiFine.
are the pigs and such supposed to change their skins when they're in a different biome? i brought some boar-pigs back from a trip to a forest to my home in the savannah, but now they've changed to normal pigs and i really liked how they looked as boars :(
Yeah that kinda sucks. Unfortunately the custom skins activate when the game loads, so if you reload your save in a different biome from where you find the pigs, they will have turned back to the skin that matches the biome they loaded in.

hey i dont know how to do cem so can you make a model for me so i can use it in my pack (ill give credit) i need a villager head that uses the hood (make it work with vanilla textures) like the illusioner

optifine is good you don't even need forge it increases your fps as well you should look in to it
Yes someone else who knows how to make 3d mobs also/
husks do the same thing when drowning, they can become a zombie alex.
also i would love to see different versions of the drowned, (AKA alex style, or no seaweed hair)
I could do it, but it doesn't make much sense... Regular zombies turn into drowneds when they're underwater for too long, but they won't keep their 'gender'. It would result into Steve zombies suddenly becoming Alex zombies, and that didn't make much sense so I decided against it.
Could you make a separate version without the 3D ears?

I'm not sure if I'm the only one to have this problem or not, but a lot of the textures are broken on the updated models. Zombie Pigmen, Sheep, Cows, Pigs, and Chickens are just some of the models I'm having trouble with. Also, I haven't seen a single Alex zombie on here. Just thought I should bring it to your attention.

EDIT: Turns out the version of optifine I'm using doesn't support the MCPatcher folder anymore and instead draws everything from the optifine folder. I got it fixed.

EDIT 2: The llama head model doesn't seem to work either but I couldn't find a fix.
The pack now works with the latest and greatest version for OptiFine.

I was aware of the llama head overlay not working properly, and I was hoping for OptiFine to properly implement it but it hasn't happened yet. For now I've just removed the llama head model. I'll re-add it once OptiFine supports overlay layers properly.

Thank you! Can I ask what modeling program you use to make these? I'm trying to turn the zombie pigmen into living pigmen and have them closely resemble the ones in the Fallen Kingdom animations by TryHardNinja, but BlockBench can't seem to export entity parts.

EDIT: I just checked the files in Notepad, Cubik Studio. I'll look into picking that up. Thanks for putting this content out there, now I'm inspired to make my own content for the game!

Hey, I really like your pack and it motivated me to try to improve some of the models myself. I was wondering if you started from scratch and remade the models yourself or if you downloaded / exported the default models and improved them? If so, could you tell me where I can find them?

I started from scratch. Just pixel count from the vanilla texture/model.

It isn't; a lot of things were changed from 1.12 to 1.13.

Yeah, Mikey Joe is the only one person, who I saw really changing textures in specific biome, not just adding random textures.

dangit i don't know how to download optifine ;-;
It's pretty simple. OptiFine for 1.13 isn't technically out yet, but you can download a 'preview' version (which is really stable) on the official OptiFine downloads page.

The site doesn't list the preview versions by default. You'll need to click "Preview versions" at the top of the page, which will expand a few more download links. Then you can download one of the preview versions - I recommend the top one as it's (usually) the most stable one.

Alternatively, you can just click this link which will take you to OptiFine's Adf.ly page. In the top right of that page, there'll be a little counter and after 5 seconds a yellow button reading "SKIP AD" will appear. Click this button, and the OptiFine installing will be downloaded onto your computer.

Now just open that .jar file and run it. From here on out it's pretty straightforward, so I think you'll figure it out.

Yes with credit and do you happen to know how to change mushrooms on the back of mooshrooms using random skins I wanna make brown mooshrooms (you could use that in ur own pack)
Not sure if that's possible, nor is it something I would add to the pack. Shearing a mooshroom drops red mushrooms at all times, which is a hardcoded game mechanic - it's not something I can change with a resource pack.

well okay but i have a question can you make a custom entity model for the alex drowned i tried to do it myself by copy pasting the husk file and renaming it to drowned
I sure hope optifine fixes the issues with the aqua update (1.13) or you update the pack. I can not live without this 3D pack, I absolutely love the new look of the animals.
The update is coming. I've pretty much fixed all the issues the Update Aquatic brought upon my pack. Now I just need to wait for OptiFine to update so I can see if anything needs fixing there. If everything works fine, I'll release an update.
Awesome, once I tried this pack I cannot go back to vanilla. I look forward to the update.

It's not working for me, only the eyes change and nothing else i have the latest 1.12.2 optifine
If only the eyes change then the game is only applying the texture to the models and is ignoring the models I made for some reason.
If you're really running the latest OptiFine, you should see if Custom Entity models are turned ON. Press your Escape key and go to Video Settings...\Quality...\Custom Entity Models to turn on CEM. See if that changes anything.

Checked twice everyting is on all animations and in quality custom models custom items custom colors and custom guis are on i even unloaded the resource pack and re enabled them again just to make sure
Hmm, I really wouldn't know why the CEM isn't working then... Are you sure you're running the right version of OptiFine for the right version of Minecraft? For example, if you play Minecraft in 1.12.2 you need to make sure you're running the proper OptiFine version as well.

This is a great alternative to Animania, which although is good, I'm far too lazy to keep my animals constantly fed. Great work! Definitely on my list of must have resource packs.

You could make stone slabs connected and make wood blocks when placed in a 2 by 2 area seems like one big wood log

Thanks for letting me know! The textures/models I've made are open source though, so technically anyone can use them (read OP's description).
I just want credit for my work, which CanalDoBear didn't give me. Kind of a dick move, but I'm not going to let it bother me seeing their post has 1 diamond ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This looks super cool! how exactly are you able to add things such as the pig ears onto the models? Is this done through modding, or just advanced use of resource packs?
OptiFine (a mod everyone should run at all times) allows for Custom Entity Models.

For some reason it won't work for me? The animals eyes go black and nothing else. No ears, snouts, etc.
You will need to install OptiFine to take advantage of this pack's features.
