Support for webm or mp4 server banners

When creating a server, it can often be very hard to get even a simple gif file under the 350kb limit. This is in part due to the fact that the GIF format is not well designed for full-color or high-detail images. For example, here is my upcoming server banner in GIF format:

And here it is in Webm/mp4 format: https://gfycat.com/QuarterlySimilarBettong

As you can see, the length, quality and color depth of the second banner is far better, yet the first image has a size of 340kb (just under the limit), and the webm/mp4 version has a size of only 129kb.

Is there any chance this could be implemented?

PARTIAL SUPPORT!
I can see the quality and color improvements of the WebM file versus the GIF banner you provided, so I see where you're going with this. However, some people have slow PCs. The amount of GIF banners on a typical Planet Minecraft server list already tend to lag out some browsers - throw a bunch of MP4 and WebM banners into the mix and the browser might barely be able to handle it. Take it from me - a Planet Minecraft user who had a crummy and slow eMachines computer running Windows 7 with only 2GB of RAM and a 1.5GHz processor speed.

Nevertheless, I saw better quality in the WebM file you provided over the GIF image.

Definitely planned. I feel like webm is supported widely enough that we can finally get rid of gifs for good.

WebMs actually run better than GIFs because they use native video decoding in nearly all cases, even on crappy computers. GIFs' decoding process is pretty slow, and with GIF being proprietary there's probably other weird problems with the format.

I would love to be part of the solution to rid the world of GIFs once and for all. Viva la WebMvelution.

EDIT: also it's hard to argue with 132614b vs 347646b WITH better quality and 60fpsness.

Hi there, just enquiring on the status of adding this - About to re-release the server and not being able to use webm/mp4's again means you can only do so much within the bandwidth. Any hope of an update soon?

Okay. I see your point now. My information was WAY off. Don't judge me, I'm a computer enthusiast not an IT guy. :/

Trust me, no judging from me, I'm just very enthusiastic of killing GIFs for good!
