I understand the current status between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China. This is just the label I decided to use for areas that are not an officially recognized nation. Is there a description that fits better I should use?

yes just call it taiwan. then youre neither recognising it as a country nor calling it a region of china

I do need to give it some sort of category so that it is tagged. I intend to complete all official nations, territories, and other autonomous regions. And I want a category to easily group and search them.

The term "region" does not imply ownership, as it can apply to any non-official nation whether it is considered dependent or independent. If I think of a better term later I might still change it, but for now I think it fits. Just don't take it a a political statement on their current status, lol.

ok fair enough, my problem was, the chinese communist party call it a region. It is referred to as a region by them because they lay claim to it and call it a region of china. Have a nice day, its a good banner B)

I have one more update to this. Now that I am finally getting around to more areas that are not fully recognized countries, more clarification was needed. Also, "subnation" would be too confusing with "subnational", which I might use to represent smaller townships/counties within countries. My new terms are the following.

Nation: Fully sovereign, UN member or observer.
Autonomy: Technically part of another nation, but fully or mostly sovereign and claiming independence.
Territory: Technically part of another nation, but not claiming independence. Varying levels of sovereignty.
Constituent: Fully sovereign member of a larger nation.
State: Non-fully sovereign member of a larger nation, but larger than a municipality.

I decided to go with the term "Subnation" for all constituents, territories, or otherwise unofficial nations. There are A LOT of terms used and odd grey areas in the world, and I feel this label best includes them all without having ten different obscure labels.

Can you tell I over-think things? lol
