British olympian Ashley McKenzie got into sports over a Charizard pokemon card. Once, when he was a kid, someone took his Charizard, but when he fought and tried to take it back, he lost. So then he decided to learnhow to beat the guy, became friends with him, and got the card back.

In Yveltal's pokedex entry (depending on what you read) it says that "When this legendary pokemon's wings and tail feathers glow red, it absorbs the life force from all living creatures." 0_o

There was a banned pokemon episode that aired in Japan that caused many who watched it seizures!!

Originally Jynx was black, but it was deemed too racist, so it was changed to purple. (Gee, I wonder why...)

When Paras evolves into Parasect, the mushrooms on it's back grow and take over the pokemon, explaining the glazed white eyes.
Numero Nine.
The fire starter pokemon seem to be based off of the Chinese Zodiac (Yes I am aware these are the evolvants)
Emboar: Pig
Blaziken: Rooster
Typhlosion: Rat
Charizard: Dragon (duh)
Infernape: Monkey

Mareep the sheep pokemon is a possible reference to a book 'Do androids dream of electric sheep?' This book was also the base for Blade Runner. o_0
