Forge Modloader Installation Guide for Windows

Hi and welcome to my tutorial. Recently I have been getting a lot of questions about how to install Forge Modloader for Windows, so I decided to write an installation guide. The aim of this guide is to go in depth so that it would work in different situations.

Prerequisites

1. Choose a version
Before you download the installation files, you should consider which version you would like to download since there are a lot of options. Also note the Minecraft version for which you are downloading.

There are two main types of installation files. The src package and the universal package. The src package is used by Mod Developers, so we will choose the universal package.

If you already know which Mod you would like to install you could look for a Forge version number on the page of the Mod. The publisher may or may not have put it there. Otherwise I would select the recommended version.

2. Download the installation files
The official website to download the Minecraft Forge installation files is located at:
http://files.minecraftforge.net/

In the top you will find the Latest and Recommended versions. Below is the complete list of all available versions. Select the universal link of the version you would like to install. You will be redirected to the Adfly website. You will have to wait a few seconds. Click in the top right corner of the screen on the SKIP AD button once the counter is finished. Your download will now start.

3. Clean up
This step is most important in my opinion, but is not mandatory. If my Forge Modloader failed to install, the reason has always been that I didn't clean up. Cleaning up will make sure your Minecraft installation is up to date and fresh.

Follow these steps to clean up:
  • Press Win + R.
  • Type %appdata% and press enter.
  • If it exists, copy the .minecraft folder unto your desktop. If it doesn't exist, skip to 4. Installation.
  • Remove the .minecraft folder from your %appdata% folder.
  • Run Minecraft.exe and wait until it finished updating and reached the Main Menu.
  • Quit Minecraft
  • If they exist, copy the folders saves and texturepacks and the file servers.dat from the .minecraft folder which is located on your desktop to the .minecraft folder which has been created by Minecraft in the %appdata% folder.
  • Run Minecraft to see if it works properly. If it does, quit Minecraft to continue the installation.

4. Installation
Follow these steps to install Forge Modloader:
  • Open the downloaded ZIP archive containing Forge Modloader in WinRAR.
  • Open %appdata%/.minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar in WinRAR.
  • Delete the META-INF folder from the minecraft.jar archive.
  • Copy all files and folders from the Forge Modloader ZIP archive to the minecraft.jar archive. Overwrite if necessary.

That's it! Forge Modloader is installed now. Run Minecraft and Forge will start automatically from now on.

5. Mod installation
To install a Forge Mod, simply copy the ZIP archive to the %appdata%/.minecraft/mods folder and run Minecraft.

Good luck, enjoy and subscribe! :-D

I'm assuming this guide does not work for players playing offline, because I play offline, and when I got to the removing .minecraft and running Minecraft part, it wouldn't allow me to play offline. And now my Minecraft won't start.
I should probably delete everything and download a new 1.5.2 jar file.
