So, people are STILL trying to stay in Minecraft 1.8 versions in their servers, even though we are now in 1.10 Java. It's all too common in these months beyond the release of the Combat Update, where most of their plugins do work in 1.9/1.10 releases. So the Million Emeralde question is this: Why? Why are we so afraid of progress?
I just mentioned how most, if not ALL, plugins typically used by servers should be working in the 1.9/1.10 releases. Not many servers have this as an excuse. Of course, servers that have a lot of custom plugins may take a bit longer, and they are excused from any ridicule for this, but the smaller ones that use whatever they can find on Bukkit, Curse, or Spigot don't have this luxury. It's been months, and every plugin that I use for my server works perfectly fine in 1.10 (even our Custom one that's still a Work in Progress, but it was made for 1.9 originally). I will provide a list at the end of this section.
If Plugins are your reasoning by now and you're not using bigger, harder-to-update ones or custom ones, YOU ARE JUST BEING LAZY. OWN UP TO IT. I WOULD PREFER YOU ADMIT YOUR LAZINESS THAN ATTACK 1.9+ BECAUSE OF IT.
So you run a PVP Server? 1.9 will break your entire balance?
Very well. You also get a pass from my judgement. You know why? PVP servers have worked a long time to perfect the balance in Spam-Clicking with armors, powers, etc. You get some extra time before I think less of you. I don't care for PVP servers, myself, but I can understand where you're taking more time to get a balance ready before updating (you will update eventually, right?) to the newer versions.
PVP servers—the typical ones, at least—tend to be a bit lighter on Plugins, where all their power comes from how well they managed to balance their weapons, armor, powers, items, maps, etc. 1.9 and 1.10 brought in a lot for PVP servers to consider, too many variables, too many hazards. Let's not even get started on how Elytra factors into all this.
Are you a PVP server? Because literally just above this is your free pass. If you're not a PVP-focused server, I have some bad news for you.
If your server is not Combat-Centric, you have no right to complain about how the Combat Changes affect your server. Players, you are also not safe from this! If the servers you enjoy most are Non-Combat, then you have no right to *complain* about it!
Dual-Wielding adds far more for Non-Combat servers than it takes away (I think the same applies to PVP servers, but they still get their pass). I shouldn't have to expand upon this—but ask me to, and I will.
Explain. I spent my time explaining why some people can get a pass for sticking with 1.8, while criticizing those who are not in those groups for staying 1.8, so I think you can, too.
Digging in your heels about something you can't change (and that, in all likelihood, won't change again) and staying 1.8 forever won't do you any good. It will hold you back; it will restrict you; it will make you fade away. You can't honestly tell me that it's better to not have Shields, Tipped Arrows, an End Revamp, Magma Blocks, Polar Bears, Shulkers (and Levitation), Strays and Husks, the new boats, Elytra, FrostWalker, Mending, Mesa Mineshafts, Axes being viable as weapons... the list goes on. You can't argue these points. Either find something that can be legitimately debated about 1.8 against Combat Update and beyond or just update.
I refer to the collective of Hypixel, Mineplex, and (to a lesser extent because it's the smaller one of the three) HiveMC as "The Big 3" of Minigame Servers. I don't think there should be any other Minigame servers than theirs, but that's a different discussion.
I believe that the Big 3 would, from a technical point of view, be unaffected by an update to 1.9/1.10. You might say "But they are! I can join with 1.9/1.10 clients!", but that's not because they updated. They use a plugin that tricks your Minecraft into using 1.8, regardless of what your actual version is (so long as it's 1.8+). They did not update.
So, why are they not updating? Because of the backward-thinking players who think that "1.8 is the pinnacle of Minecraft because 1.9 broke everything". You, the Players, are the entire problem. They are afraid of how many of you will just leave if they were to update. I do not doubt that if they were going to update to 1.9, they would have been able to by now. They would have been able to update their entire servers, minigames, plugins, and all, if the Players were to be more accepting of it.
I also believe that if all three were to update to 1.9/1.10, they would lose a lot of players, but they would also bring the community to be more accepting of these newer versions. From a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense. I understand that. Money-wise, they need to stay behind until the community is ready. But if they want to make that change come sooner, it would come at that cost (Maybe in hundreds, even thousands, of dollars from "donations" to the servers individually).
Overall, those who argue for 1.8 over Combat Update and beyond are mostly just whiners without any valid arguments. Feel free to pm me so that we can discuss any TRUE arguments for 1.8 over 1.9+, as I would love to have an honest discussion about it.

I Am a PVP Server

I Don't Like the Combat Update's Combat Changes

1.8 Is Just Better Than 1.9/1.10

My Thoughts on the "Big 3"

Have something to say?
However, if we don't even try to accept these new changes, we will never be able to get used to them. They're not going anywhere, so we might as well deal with what we don't like.
No wonder your class is Button Pusher.
