Ever since Suzanne Collinso series, The Hunger Games, these types of servers have been insanely popular. Yes, io m talking about the Survival Games. One of the most popular servers in this category is MCSG. They have over a hundred servers, all the same rotating through a large variety of maps where you fight to the death against 23 other tributes. You can craft, escape traps, and discover hidden places in maps of unlimited themes. The most popular io ve seen are The Survival Games by Variede, but Breeze Island has been very popular lately. But thato s not why youo re here is it?

If you were like me, io ve read the books three times. When I heard you could play on a server, competing against other tributes, I was insanely excited. I searched for hours on end, and finally found a perfect server. At that point the only map was by Variede, the original Survival Games. I had to wait half an hour at most before I could play another round. But I loved every minute of it. Round after round, I ran towards the shining cornucupia, in hopes of finding a small piece of loot. Everyone was faster than me. By the time I checked all the chests, half had run away while the others ganged up to kill me. As I played I met some teammates and together we made it out alive. I want all of you to have that feeling, of surviving the hardest part of the games, which is why I put this guide together.

With this I am focusing on the MCSG servers, (www.minecraftsurvivalgames.com) others may be much different. So before you hate and tell me that this didno t work on your SG server, remember this is only meant for MCSG. Io m not saying this wono t work for other SG servers, You can try some of the pointers if youo d like. Another note. In this guide you may not agree with everything. Remember this is how I play and my opinions. Even if you disagree, it wouldno t hurt to try a few tips. Now that weo ve got that all figured out, we can finally move to what youo ve kept reading for.The moment of truth, the guide part.

A guide to MCSG

The cornucopia is inevitably the most important part of the game, how you start here depends how you finish in the end. My first tip is, dono t run away, run in. If you get good loot it can ensure you a spot in the deathmatch. Yes, you could be attacked but the chances of that are unlikely. When you get your loot get out. Did you find a stone sword? Dono t stick around and attack people, get out. It might seem like the right decision at the time, but most of the time ito s my downfall. Hereo s what normally happens, I grab a sword and attack other tributes, that have good loot. while I do this, a few of them punch me, slightly lowering my health. Then a tribute comes running in with a sword and gets me before I can kill him. Yes, I know the thought of a full set of iron, waiting around in the tributes hands just to be claimed by your sword is compelling, but it doesno t always work out the way you want. If I quickly grab a sword, I follow the tribute with the most armour on. that way you get pretty close to a nice set and more protection against the others that grab sword off the bat. But what if you dono t get a sword? When I open a chest at corn, I grab the most important items first, then get the lesser ones later. My list of items goes like this.

1. Stone Sword (Can get you better items. Explained above)

2. Diamonds (If you get two and a stick. Thato s a good omen right there)

3. Iron Armour (youo re gonna need protection. Why not go for the best?)

4. Iron Ingots (An iron sword? Thato ll wreck up)

5. Gold Armour (Any protection is better than none. right?

6. Sticks (Cano t build a sword without one)

7. Bow (Good weapon, but useless without arrows)

8. Food (Dieing of hunger? not a good way to go)

9. Flint And Steel (The girl on fire. Seriously.)

10. Arrows (Worthless without a bow)

YAY! We survived the cornucopia! from here on, there are many ways to play the game. I normally decide on my loot from the cornucopia. If Ihave have a sword and good armour I hunt. A good way to go about this is by checking the best chests you know. (Normally double chests.) If someone is there, you get a kill and thier items. If no one is there, you get the chest! Ito s a win win situation. But beware the hunters. They hunt their prey down like a lion with a wounded gazelle. They are never afraid to check chests, and that is how you catch them. If you use the tactic above and the tribute is stronger than you, wait for them to check the chest, then pounce! While they are busy collecting items, you get free hits on them. Most players attack back, but you got the early hits so you generally win. Note this tactic will not always work. I suggest not taking on a tribute with iron armour and a diamond sword, while using only a wooden sword. When you get the kill get out of there. You still lost some hearts, and the lightning will alert other hunters nearby, which leads us to another tactic of hunting, that I call the Thunder Zone. If you are hunting survey the area. (works best with the most tributes) If a kill happens, lightning will flash that area. Get close quickly before they run off. Note: The tribute you find will most likely have a sword or axe, in the rare occasion of a deadly fistfight. You then proceed to attack them. Do not necessarily be worried if they have way better items than you, but be cautious. They will have most likely taken some damage.

Again dono t be cocky, thato s a trait that will get you killed.

But what if you dono t have a weapon? Then, you need to find or craft one. Thoroughly check every building or landmark unless another tribute is near. One of my ways to check many chests in a row is to run along the outside of the map where chests are hidden in trees of the ground. These are a good source for iron, which could lead to a sword. Another way of getting many chests in a row is to have a designated chest route before the game, checking chests in quick succession. The one time to not check chests when you pass by, is if you are being chased. If you have hopes of finding some kind of weapon in one of those chests drop it. First of all your pursuer gets extra hits on you. If that happens and you do find a weapon your chances of making the kill are slim. Half the time they are already looted. If you can find them while quickly running by, then someone hunting for a chest probably found it first. But seeing chests isno t a bad thing, sometimes you can lose a hunter by running them close to a chest. Also, leading them by other tributes may cause your pursuer to attack them or they attack your pursuer.Be cautious with this tactic because the tribute you just ran by could attack you! A nice way to avoid these situations completely is to have a partner or teammate to gang up with best found in the lobby. They are a good way to survive and get better items through them. they are also an easy way to win the games. If you make it that far. 2 V.S. 1 normally works out as planned, but io ve killed a ton of partners in my time on MCSG. A nice way to get a double kill is by lighting an entrance on fire, that way they must take damage to get to you. You could also climb a ladder and continuously knock them off attacking them with fall damage.

Now the deathmatch, regularly 3 tributes competing for victory. Unable to leave the Cornucopia, you must face the others, ito s now or never. If you have the best items, you might feel pretty overpowered, but it some cases two stone swords beat a diamond one. (I know from experience) Now is the reason for a team. 2 V.S. 1 is a great advantage in the deathmatch. If I am so eager to win (I normally am) I let my partener attack the other tribute where after he finishes him I jump in and take down my partner. But you dono t want your partner dying early do you? So ito s always nice to provide some cover fire with a bow.

Now I have an interview with one of my regular teammates, canned_apple!

Q: What is your most effective way of winning?

A: Well, I am a pretty good shot with a bow and bows do more damage than most swords. My favourite way of using a bow in deathmatch, is by loading during the countdown then releasing just as DM starts. That way I get an extra hit before they can use a sword. Another way to use a bow in DM is if a tribute is charging, slightly charge up your bow and rapid fire. Not only does this deal damage it provides knockback as well.

Q: What is your favourite way to hunt?

A: Well, I use most of the techniques mentioned with bremoor11, but I also like to find a tribute and ask to team with them. Normally they accept. I then place a good item on the ground. When the go to pick it up, I slaughter them.

Q: How do you make it out of the cornucopia alive?

A: If you need to use vines to get out, I take a direct route then destroy the vines below me so the other tributes need to go to another side instead of towards me.

Q: how do you be the first one to the cornucopia?

A: If you need to swim to it, I punch the others away while swimming backwards. Therefore I am first to the chests near me and get most of the loot.

I have given you most of my hints and tricks and hope you use them well. I also hope that we may see one another on MCSG, my IGN being bremoor11. If you do see me, say that you read my blog. Maybe we could team! Thanks everyone!
