What the hell is an Adventure?

Date of Adventure: Friday, December 23rd, 2022
Date of Writing: Saturday, December 24th, 2022

So, this Adventure began with my dad picking me up from my Mom's house around 2 PM (ET). From there, we took the train to West 4 Street and then walked to Cozy's Soup and Burgers, our usual place for dinner on Christmas Eve. (If you're wondering why we're doing this on Christmas Eve Eve even though we usually do it on the 24th, it's because my family has an alternating system where I spend one year's Xmas Eve and Day with my mom, and then the next with my dad. I always go to my dad's on Christmas Day, though, and then spend the week with him. An easy way to remember it is that the year I have Christmas with my mom is the same year I have Thanksgiving with my dad.) Anyways, back to the story. On the walk to Cozy's, we walked through Washington Square Park (which we normally only go to in the summer, and where we used to go Christmas caroling on Christmas Eve before 2020) and took some pictures with the Christmas tree in the background, and then continued on our way through the (very) windy streets of New York City. Once got to Cozy's, we sat in a booth, and it was apparently their 50th anniversary. They were founded in 1972, the same year my dad was born. I had a burger, fries, and vanilla milkshake, and my dad had a double bacon cheeseburger, mashed potatoes, and also a vanilla milkshake. He also got a double Epsresso. It was gonna be a long night, and my dad tends to fall asleep on long nights because he works in an ambulance they have late hours. I'm getting off track again. Let me focus on the story. We ate dinner (and it was like, 3 - 3:30 PM) and talked about Iron Maiden, Christmas, and stuff like that. My dad was also looking at our tickets for the movie, and apparently there were tickets available for a 5 PM screening of Avatar: The Way of Water, while we had tickets for the 6 PM screening.

Once we finished eating, we washed our hands, my dad used the bathroom, and we left for the nearby movie theater, Regal. Once we got there, my dad asked if he could change our tickets to the 5 PM screening I mentioned above, and the lady at the counter changed our tickets. We picked seats in row N, the second row the back. We got 3D glasses, butter popcorn, and Pepsi (but only because the theater didn't have any Coke), and then took our seats towards the end of the row. We didn't sit exactly where we were supposed to, but that was because there was only one other person sitting in our row (according to the screen that showed all the people that had bought tickets back when we were changing our tickets). It was quiet, since were the first ones in the theater, and we watched movie trivia stuff they show while we set up our stuff. Let me show you the seating arrangement for us:

Dad Me Animals -------------------------------------------Some other dude

My dad sat in the seat and the end of the row, with me next to him. On the right of me was the plush animals we had brought on the Adventure (it was a tradition to bring a plushie on an Adventure). They were sitting on my coat, and the ones we had brought were Wisp (a yeti), Sludge (a brachiosaurus), Grimlock (a T-rex), Hammy (a hammerhead shark), and Geno (a shortfin mako shark). Now, time for the spoilers section.

Spoilers for Avatar: The Way of Water
The movie was so good! My favorite character had to be Payakan, the tulkun, which are these giant whale-like creatures that live in the seas of Pandora, and they're the spirit siblings of the Metkayina clan. The whole story of Payakan being a misunderstood creature who bonds with one of the main characters is cliche, but they made it really good. I also loved the fighting scenes at the end, my favorite part being when Payakan jumps out of the water and over the SeaDragon as Sully is about to surrender himself. I also liked the part were Payakan fights the hunters and rips off Captain Scoresby's arm using his own harpoon. The ending was also nice, and for a second I thought Spider was going to go with Quartich, but instead he showed his loyalty to the people of Pandora by swimming back to Sully's family. All in all, this movie was definitely (hey, I spelled it right for once) better than the first one, and I highly recommend them both. Plus, the filming for Avatar 3 is already 95% done (they did back-to-back filming) and it's coming out in 2024.

Now, after the movie ended, we exited the theater, waited a few minutes to take a Polaroid of the digital poster for the movie, but it didn't come on the screen for a while, so we took one of the (smaller) poster next to the entrance to the theater. (And as we left, the poster for Way of Water came on the screen!) My dad used the bathroom, then took me home. I got home around 9:45 PM, had a scare when Grimlock wasn't in the plastic bag my dad had put him, Sludge, and Wisp in (because when we left it was snowing and also my dad had water in his bag). Turns out Grimmy had fallen out of the bag and was under the Polaroid.

So, yeah, that's how my night was last night. Happy holidays!
