The Amazon is well known for being a region with great biodiversity. There are also dozen of species of birds! There are well-known ones, such as the blue-and-yellow macaw and the scarlet macaw. Enough of the surprising ones, like King Vulture and the Andean Cock-of-the-rock. there are a few new bird species being discovered in the amazon, as with most animal species. In this blog, I'm going to talk about the Amazon, especially the habits of the birds living there, but also what unfortunately happens with deforestation.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Common bird families and their habits
The birds that live in the Amazon are more often granivorous and insectivorous, it's quite normal, there is a lot of greenery in this place! There are also scavenger or prey birds, such as the king vulture, the white-necked hawk and the spectacled owl.
There are many environments in the Amazon, ranging from forested to humid, so we can find different species there depending on each location. There are many parrots and hummingbirds. We can even find toucans. But there are also many other species, some of which are migratory.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The problems related to deforestation
The Amazon is also known, alas, for the large deforestations which threaten this biodiversity. Who says threat to biodiversity also says threat to species and birds are part of it. Birds mainly live in trees and many birds do not survive the demolition of their environments, causing many species to become vulnerable, such as the Cinereous warbling finch and the Spix's Macaw.
It is also a large danger for migratory birds, because when they leave their nesting site to migrate, when they return, it is not uncommon for the area to be damaged by deforestation. After migrating, the birds lose a lot of energy and it is therefore very difficult for them to set out again in search of a new nesting site with the strength they have left.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, there are many endemic bird species in the Amazon but unfortunately, they could quickly become endangered with deforestation which, if not stopped, could well demolish the entire Amazon forest in about forty years. They are really beautiful species of birds, with magnificent colors for the most part!
