The rain seemed to be slowing now. Surrounding leaves had certainly had
their fill, and were lazily giving their droplets to the ground. Dr.
Selo again brushed off the brim of his hat, trying to get a better
look at his map. It had been two weeks now since he had left the
university for this vacation, first heading to the pyramids in Giza
and now here to the jungles of South America. Selo's research had
been focused on the creation of the pyramids, and how such
structures could have been created in such detail, at a time when
technology had not yet progressed far. His travels had led him to the
jungles of the Americas. Long he had wondered if the pyramids of the
world had been built in similar shapes for a particular reason.
Others in academia laughed at the idea, stating how primitive peoples
of old would build that way since it was easy. Still, the nagging
thoughts wouldn't leave him. What if there was something else?

A cold breeze brought Selo back to the task at hand. Natives in the
area had told him of odd ruins deep in the jungle which other
Archeologists had not yet investigated. The crudely built map a
native had made him seemed to indicate that the ruins should be
nearby, but the light was diminishing. Night was coming soon and Selo
needed to find a place to set up his camp. A nearby overhang seemed
ideal to keep the rain somewhat off of his already soaked gear.
Gathering some nearby, dry pieces of wood, Selo built a fire. Setting
down his gear to dry, he laid out his sleeping mat and sat down.
Thoughts of the times long ago filled his mind; thoughts of the
natives and the kingdom they had built. As the fire slowly began to
die down, Selo's eyes grew ever more heavy, until the light of his
consciousness left him.

Sometime in the morning hours, as he told me later, he woke from his sleep.
The sky was still pitch black and the stars hidden by the thick
forest of trees creating a dream like state on his eyes. Yet
something was glowing. Something was attracting his eyes. A dim light
glimmered through a small hole in the overhang near him. Grabbing a
small flashlight, he proceeded to work his way into the hole. The
hole slowly expanded into a cave as Selo ventured into the overhang.
The odd light was beginning to grow brighter. As he rounded a bend in
the tunnel, he stopped. The path ahead was a dead end, but there sat
a piece of wall that had been carved into the cave. Light seemed to
glimmer from it. Markings of some language embedded within it. Selo
felt as though his blood drained from his body. A feeling of
lightness began to overtake him. The light that was now cascading
throughout the tunnel was too much for him, and with the strength
leaving his body, Selo collapsed onto the floor.

Ever since a young age Steve Selo had loved exploring. His love eventually
led him to becoming an archeologist and gaining an education quickly.
By age 24 he had received his doctorate in archeology and had a
bright future ahead of him. Academia never did dull his desire to see
more in the world and as such led him on a series of expeditions.
Settling down had not yet entered his mind for there was too much to
see and too much to learn.

Selo's first moments in our land were rough on him. After passing out in a
cave one moment, he found himself surrounded in, as he said, “block
world.” The understanding of physics he had in his previous life
did not always hold true in the new one. Blocks would absorb into
him, laws of gravity would not always hold true, and then there were
of course the monsters. After fending for himself for a while he
eventually found us in our village and built a home for himself
nearby. As for what he does now, well, he's often off hunting the
monsters or burrowed somewhere down in the depths looking for
diamonds. Still, he's always looking for more, never satisfied where
he's at. Here and there he's spoken of trying to replicate another
“door” in which he can continue his exploration. He seems to have
so many questions about our land, our people, and our origin. But
then again, that's Steve. Always looking for answers, always leaving
the land of the known and exploring, ever exploring, into the abyss.
