Are too many "kids" playing minecraft?

The title says it all.

I'm not nostalgic and a complete anti-update freak but the minecraft community used to be more freaking mature. How often do you see people yelling "HACKER, NOOB, ****, FGT" (the list goes on)
There seems to be a lot of immature people on minecraft and more little kids playing minecraft. I'm not bashing all kids who play minecraft, I mean some people can be pretty mature. I've seen a 9 year old admin on a server who acted as if they were 15, (no joke). However, the majority of little kids playing minecraft are not like that. I'm talking about those people who rage when they loose, abuse their power if they are staff, say complete nonsense ECT.

I wouldn't be too damn surprised if I find this in a store.

Spoiler - click to reveal

A lot of these toys and many minecraft accessories are getting way more popular than they used to be, if they even existed a while ago. There is just an insane amount of toys and accessories related to minecraft, seeing a 6 year old with a minecraft book bag on their way to school is normal. Just how many adults still play with toys? This tells you something, doesn't it?

Minecraft now being aimed torwards a younger audience brings immaturity into the community. A lot of servers online seem to be ran from 7 year olds hosting a factions PVP server on their 700MHz pentium 3 PC with 256MB of RAM or whatever.
The quality of minecraft servers seems to be lower, a lot of these crazy 9 year olds are running around and they will beg people for admin, get a "girlfriend" on minecraft, and much more bullcrap.

I feel minecraft shouldn't be focused on little kids so much, it's degrading the quality of servers and just overall making the community worse. Some kids that are mature enough, that's alright. If there are a few 8-10 year olds who can act mature, I don't mind. The overhaul of kids from this age group, I can't handle that.

There also apparently seem to be a lot of immature minecraft youtubers that attract a fanbase of little kids. :/
It's normal to see little kids running around calling gold "budder."

I think Minecraft has gone too far, I think the game is too welcoming to kids younger than 12, with selling all these toys and plushies

Minecraft was basically designed for kids. Basically 9 and up. So expect a rage here and there

Different kids are different. Even teens + can rage and be immature. There are kids who don't rage into the chat. When you hear someone rage, you think they are young.
The argument should be: There's too many immature people on Minecraft. Not too many kids.
It's stupid to say that all kids are immature "brats" that shouldn't play Minecraft. Minecraft isn't exlcluding.

I remember when I first got the game I knew nothing about it, so I went on singleplayer and unleashed my creativity. I think what Mojang needs to do is make singleplayer a bit more appealing.

i find that as much as kids are immature and disrespectful on games, used in the right context and the right way it can encourage creativity and imagination. kids lack tact nowadays its true but the few immature idiots should not ruin the experience because in reality they are only kids!

this article is a great read by the way!

To be honest, it's normally the 11-12 year olds acting as immature as they are to either look cool or they are just moany brats. It's normally this age group that are childish and immature because they are learn the rude words and think it's cool to swear.

I crei everi tiem. :(

Why do you have to bold every word?
Anyway, I believe in this. My friend lately has started to use curse words a lot more frequently and has a Youtube channel. I feel like this is tied together with the fact that Youtube has a lot older people playing the game and, being an adult and being able to do whatever they want, curse and act immaturely. I'm not saying all Youtubers are bad, some of the good being Captain Sparklez, Antvenom, Cavemen films, stuff like that. But if you think about it, you click a random Minecraft video, bam, cursing, profanity, all that stuff.

Using bold is my thing, and yes, people with YouTube channels are more liable to curse.

I find Minecraft a 'medium', so to speak, for creativity. Possibilities are limitless.
That's why I think Minecraft should be a game aimed at, say, not 9+ but 13+ perhaps.

I've also had some experience with game coding (programming) in GM:S so I fully understand:
A) The work that went into Minecraft.
B) How unerring algorithms are.

Now I'm not saying algorithms don't err at all, they do sometimes, but when they work once, usually they work twice, and when they work twice, usually they work all the time.

So I'm frustrated when people say that Minecraft is being unfair because they're a bad PvPer or, after greifing, they say that the items from the chest 'glitched' into their inventory and they're not responsible for it at all.

I've also seen many a child go completely rage after a lose or when their base gets raided on a Factions server, or similar situations... it is usually based in no reality whatsoever.
I have also seen children start talking about things their parents have obviously not educated them in (such as sexually explicit words, which they probably do not even know the meaning of) that they should not be speaking about...

Must I go on?

I somewhat agree with this. The kids who troll and rage have everyright to play on servers, though I really don't understand why they host // moderate servers. I do know an 11 year old who acts 16 though, there are some quite mature ones.
Best way to deal with the annoying caps, get a chat filter that filters out Caps. ;D

No, every kid has every right to play Minecraft, it's always been a multi-age game, and always will be

Along with the fact that no one is forced to play servers, and still many servers are good with competent staff. Minecraft shouldn't be an exclusive "club" for older "mature" players, it should be a game which everyone will enjoy.

Besides, I'm almost 14, and I'd enjoy those toys, just because they'd look cool decorating my room. Toys aren't just for immature kids, neither is Minecraft

I'm not saying that they don't have the right. I'm just saying sometimes these kids can get a little annoying, and I really can't do anything about it. Yeah little kids shouldn't be restricted but I'm saying maybe some can wait if they are mature enough instead of having them acting like complete (insert insult here). Maybe these little kids could act a little more mature.

You're 14 and you enjoy these toys? Well most 14 year olds don't have toys. Some do, but 95% of toys are aimed torwards little kids, not many teens or adults still use them. And the amount of toys being sold is pretty dang high.

hasnt it always been aimed at a younger community? except for platform games like CoD and stuff, and then more mature fighting games like LoL or WoW, games are aimed at a younger community because society expects the older population to be working. I agree that people are getting more obnoxious than they were before, but I don't think it should be blamed on like 7 and 8 year olds, because it really is the 11 and 12 year olds that are most obnoxious

* and it is natural for 11 and 12 year olds to be annoying. im a camp counselor and i can 100% confirm that. it's been especially boosted by the creation of those "FAIL" and "NOOB" words but otherwise i see more respectful 6/7/8 year olds than the "older" kid community

It was bound to happen anyways seeing how minecraft is popular. The minecraft toys and items were made because there was already a good portion of kids playing in the first place. At this point even if they stopped making minecraft stuff for kids nothing would change.

I've never seen this before on this site. Glad someone had the balls to post this. However, I'd prepare for the incoming overload of kids commenting on this blog. I would have posted a similar blog to this one only i'm sure I would have been banned for some of the content expressed in there, so I'm glad you did. A diamond for you! You're a good man, this site needs more like you!

To be honest myself, I'm kinda annoyed with it too. I remember back in the day I used to work on serversand server projects with a mature staff. Small but mature. Now a days, it becomes rare for me to even find a decent person whose not only dedicated to their server but also consists of mature staff. I mean when I was 12 I was decent as fuck and then when I look at the new generation I'm just like facepalming everywhere. However to be fair, everything has its rights and wrongs. Just because I agree with this doesn't make it right as more money goes into creating jobs for some of the workers on the Minecraft project and merchandise which comes from the current younger population buying it but still having them shout "Hacker, Noob" and other such offences are minor. Wait till they actually get admin privilliges. Then every goes to hell. Anyways, this is nice and for that you get my fave

I'm sorry, I didn't realize games like minecraft were made for adults.

I mean seriously,  there are immature people who aren't children. The age isn't even part of the problem.

(and should 9 year olds even be looking for girlfriends?)

I agree! I am just a ten year old and people say i am very mature! I was on a server once when the OWNER told me, (I was an admin at the time!) that he was 7! When I told him that it made complete sense now, because he spelt because, B-E-C-U-S-A-E, that he was 7, he raged and permanatly banned me! I am saying this even though I am only ten, I think that very immature little, excuse my french, but spoiled brats play minecraft!
