This has been a project that I have been working on since about April of Last year: Building Surry, Sussex and Southampton Railway #6 or as she was named Maria. Maria was built in October of 1891 making her as of this year 133 years old! This Beautiful Little 3ft Narrow Gauge engine runs in my home state of Iowa at the Midwest Central Railroad. She is a locomotive that I have always been a fan of and she was the locomotive that did my first cab ride in and after that I vowed that I would make this engine in G-scale aka a Garden Scale Model Train. This has been a Fun Project to work on and I’ve had a few highs and lows on this engine but I’m gonna show some pictures over time of the progress of the build!
The first one is the lettering for her tender on a piece of normal paper instead of Decal Paper
Welcome to me revealing my left hand as well lol This was a picture that worked out better to hold the paper than to lay in on a flat surface.
Domes for Maria!
These Domes were made for me by a Friend of mine who has a Resin 3D Printer! I’m very happy with how they came out!
The Smokestack aka Funnel for Maria!
The Ruston aka Onion Stack for Maria! This is the type Stack that she gained when she ran at the Argent Lumber Company and the One she continues to wear to this day! This Stack in G scale was made for the Bachmann Train G Scale Climax Steam Engine!
The Tender Chassis for Maria’s Tender!
The Chassis for Maria’s Tender is one that was meant to be used for a Bachmann G Scale Ten Wheeler. I spray painted it the glossy black and added the Bettendorf Trucks to hold the wheels as that’s the style truck Maria has on her Tender today. The Chassis is slightly longer in the wheel base than Maria’s actual Tender but it’s not a huge difference to be honest, this is currently unfinished as I need to paint the wheels black with whitewall trim and give the tender the final coat of paint and a bit a balsa wood to make the the tender appear that it’s wood.
The Lead Truck and Drive Wheels
The Drive Wheels and Lead Truck for Maria, the front truck is ripped off of a parts engine (A Bachmann Ten Wheeler) and the drivers are meant to be used on a USA Trains 0-6-0 Docksider but I got the wheels new as parts for another project Locomotive of mine. The wheels are meant for the 0-6-0 which is a 1:29 Scaled Standard Gauge Engine but for 1:22.5 Narrow Gauge the wheels equate to about 37in drive wheels, the same size that Maria has in 1:1! The Wheels aren't quite accurate to Maria's wheels but im working on modifying the wheels to make them look closer to Maria's wheels!
