Confusing time with quality.

Through running and administrating a creative server for over 7 months now I have come to know the difference between mediocre builds and good builds, I have also had many experiences having to break the bad news to players that their work is not worthy of a promotion, something that I never enjoy doing.

One thing though, that I have come to learn is that far too often players will use the argument of "I spent days working on this build" to try and convince me or one of my admins it is worth a promotion. This is where I draw an issue, just because you spend an extended time on a build does not automatically make it a good one. Hell, if I wanted to I could extend the time period of making a 10x10 dirt house to 4 hours or so, but in the end it is still a dirt house, and it is still not impressive.

Simply because there is a correlation between time and good builds, does not mean that the time factor is the causation, it is the effort and detail that is executed in that time that equates to being a good build.

I understand that sometimes builds don't work out how you intended, and that you may have spent a lot of time working on it, but as an admin it is my job to promote you based off of what I can see, not to be sympathetic to your time. I have had my fair share of failed builds, half-cooked ideas that I cannot bring myself to complete due to a lack of inspiration or an idea that just never fully transpired into a decent project, so I can be empathetic to your position, but it is still not a basis for me to promote you, just because I understand your position.

Basically, you have to understand that time is not a valid argument for quality. And using it to try and guilt an admin into promoting you is not a fair method whatsoever. Keep trying, not everything you make is going to be an award winning piece, don't be discouraged because something isn't.

Minecraft is a game, so enjoy it for that, not as a competition against others to gain a level of status.

Happy mining everyone :)

Thank you very much :)
I just checked out your PMC page, you are a very talented builder, you'd fit in very nicely on my server haha.
I'm not trying to sound desperate, but let me know if you are interested, I'd love to show you around and maybe even convince you to build a piece or 2 :P
