Recently I've had several of my blogs hit the pop reel. Which is good. Unfortunately with popularity comes hate. But it also brings some really good constructive criticism to help me improve my blogging skills. Unfortunately, people don't seem to get the difference between constructive criticism and hate and then tell the people that are only trying to help to "GO AWAY!". So I think I need to explain what the heck the difference is.

Hate

Hate is really easy to point out. It is strictly something that someone else posted to make you feel bad. People mostly do this because they are jealous of your post or just want to get a reaction from you. It sucks, but people do do it. To be clear one what it is, I'll give an example:

I've removed the name because apparently I have to be nice to people who are mean.

Constructive Criticism

This is what it's all about. Getting the good feedback. Unfortunately, this is what gets confused with the bad stuff so let me clear things up a bit. Constructive criticism is when someone tells you what they didn't like about your blog and how they think you can fix it. They don't necessarily have to tell you how to fix it though, they can just tell you what they didn't like and it's still feedback. Allow an example:

/me fistbumps SnowyLips. That is how it is DONE! Now that SnowyLips has given me said advice I can now apply it in the future and won't have my blogs become taken up by images! Simple, easy, useful.

Giving and Receiving

But knowing what each one is just isn't enough. You have to know how to both give and receive this stuff. Otherwise, we're screwed. Just imagine if someone was trying to help you and you started yelling at them. How would they feel?

Receiving

This seems to be where the true problems lie. When someone gives you constructive criticism you tend to be a bit angry. Why? Because as humans we are INCREDIBLY narcissistic. Meaning that we're the most self absorbed creatures on the planet. So when someone tells us we're not perfect, we tend to freak out a little.

So when someone says something to help your skills, don't yell at them. Instead take a couple minutes off and think about what they said. Are they hating on you, or are they trying to help you? Then respond accordingly. If they're hating on you, delete their comment. If they keep hating on you, add them to your ignore list. But if they're trying to help you, thank them! Then add that little tidbit that they gave you and use it to improve your skills later on. Just look a this blog for example. This time, my pictures aren't bigger than the actual blog. Thus, Snowy has helped me improve!

Giving

Somehow, people don't really know how to give constructive criticism despite knowing exactly what it is. When people don't know how to give it correctly, it comes off as hate and then you can start a whole fight over something silly.

To give proper criticism, one must completely read over the blog in question(Yes, I'm using blog here. But this can apply to other things as well.) and then think about what they didn't like. Write that down in your little comment blurb. Then you can post that.

Oooooooor, you can one up yourself and think about how that blogger can fix what you didn't like about the blog. Then they won't have to wrack their brain for the answer because they already know it!

But if you're looking to give hate, the simple answer is this: Don't.

If you like this, diamond it! It'd be AMAZING if it could make it on the popular reel.
