Is it going to happen?
Craftbukkit recently encountered a "copyright flaw" and users cannot download it. Many server owners have been worried.
Here is what gamepedia says:

As of September 3, 2014, all Bukkit download pages are currently unavailable as per a DMCA takedown request filed from one of the former Bukkit team members[, however it still can be downloaded on a mirror.

And that is in fact true. Is craftbukkit 1.8 gonna come out, even with savebukkit.org?

It is important to server owners and will take down lots of servers.
It is down because of a DMCA claim, made by one of bukkit's own developers
Bukkit can actually still be downloaded, but not craftbukkit

Gaming websites talk about it:

Bukkit News
Hi Everyone, my name is Kaelten.

Not many of you know me. I've been an admin on the Forum for several years, but until recently I've been inactive. I am also a Curse staff member, and the project lead over CurseForge.

Everyone knows there's been a lot of changes and shakeups in the community over the last several weeks. These together have left a feeling of unease with many users.

Let me start by saying that Bukkit.org and Bukkit Dev will stay online for the foreseeable future.

The future of CraftBukkit distribution lies squarely (or with Minecraft is it blockly?) with Wolvereness and Mojang. As things stand right now CraftBukkit will not be available from dl.bukkit.org.

Staffing Changes

With all the changes most of the staff for Bukkit.org have stepped down. Many of the former staff posted farewells. To archive these in perpetuity we've created a forum dedicated to staff member farewells and those posts will be relocated there.

I want to thank all of the former staff for the years of hard work and dedication to the site and Bukkit as a whole.

To help fill the gap as the future of the community becomes apparent I've brought in admins to keep things stable and civil. Please say hello to @Jadedcat, @eyamaz, and @ZeldoKavira. At least one of us should be around all the time, and will make sure all reports are handled promptly.

For now we are not accepting any applications or suggestions for additional staff. We will let people know if that changes in the future.

Rules Changes and Clarifications

Over the last few weeks we've reviewed the rules in place and have decided revise a few. We're by no means trying to impose a new culture on the forums, but given the current landscape we feel it's important that open discussion can happen. Below is a list of changes and clarifications:

Allowed:
Discussion of Bukkit alternatives and derivatives, in appropriate forums.
Not Allowed:
Posting download links to unofficial builds of CraftBukkit
Selling or advertising for-pay plugins
To facilitate better discussion of Bukkit alternatives and derivatives we've created two new forums. Please keep the threads regarding these topics in those forums.

DBO Plugins and Queue Times

Last week we started processing the queue on Bukkit Dev. As of right now the queue is completely caught up and has been for most of a week. We normally process all files within an hour, except during the late night shift at which point it can reach up to 10 hours.

We are committed to maintaining the same level of security the end users are used to.

We have not, nor shall we, compromise the safety standards placed on uploads. We're actively working on ways to further improve our process to active even high security, and shorten queue times.

However, except in situations where code issues could create accidental malicious activity, we will not be moderating for quality as that is too highly subjective. We fully expect the natural order of popularity to account for that.

Categorization is another subjective moderation point. Only cases of gross incorrect categorization will be addressed by our admin staff.

Finally, please know we will continue to accept projects and plugin uploads for the foreseeable future.

Wrap up

In closing:
Constructive feedback is always welcomed, and appreciated.
Reports are the ideal way to let us know about moderation issues.
Have fun!

DMCA Notice
From: Wesley Wolfe <email redacted>
Date: 3 September 2014 03:48
Subject: [SL] [abuse-google] Copyright

My name is Wesley Wolfe. A site hosted on an IP address owned by Multiplay
(ip redacted) is infringing on my software copyright by the distribution
of a software known as CraftBukkit.

Original content can be found at

https://github.com/Wolvereness/Bukkit-Bleeding/commits?author=Wolvereness

https://github.com/Wolvereness/Bukkit-Bleeding/commit/0a0fee8be25bf8a732abff2d66a89a64614b6327

and the appropriate license for previously mentioned content can be found at

https://github.com/Wolvereness/Bukkit-Bleeding/blob/f210234e59275330f83b994e199c76f6abd41ee7/LICENCE.txt

The provided license requires the use of included or linking code to
provide the original source under the GNU GPL license version 3, or any
later version. An official notice has been sent to Mojang AB, whereas the
Chief Operating Officer, Vu Bui, responded with the clear text:

Mojang has not authorized the inclusion of any of its proprietary
Minecraft software (including its Minecraft Server software) within the
Bukkit project to be included in or made subject to any GPL or LGPL
license, or indeed any other open source license

As the Minecraft Server software is included in CraftBukkit, and the
original code has not been provided or its use authorized, this is a
violation of my copyright. I have a good faith belief the distribution of
CraftBukkit includes content of which the distribution is not authorized by
the copyright owner, it's agent, or the law.

Pages including infringing content:
http://dl.bukkit.org/ - links to:
http://dl.bukkit.org/latest-rb/craftbukkit.jar
http://dl.bukkit.org/latest-beta/craftbukkit-beta.jar
http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/ - links to 45 pages, with
infringing content beginning on craftbukkit build #1597 and currently
ending at craftbukkit build #3115, but please allow me not to enumerate
them all
http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/view/00703_1.1-R1/ (the
first infringing build)

I have a good faith belief that the above information is accurate and that
I am the copyright owner or authorized to act on the copyright owner's
behalf.

Pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)), the
above mentioned pages need to be expeditiously removed or access-of
disabled.

Electronically Signed:

Bukkit Forums (yes!)
Hello,
You all obviously don't know me and clearly are short on time, but I have an honest question to ask. When Wesley Wolfe joined the team, were there not prior versions to craftbukkit? From my research I suspect there were, so why are the previous versions that don't contain his work are not available for download?
I don't know exactly how DMCA notices fully work - so please forgive me if something if flawed in my thinking.
Regards,
Tylev

451 Unavailable for Legal Reasons

If you read this text when you tried to download craftbukkit try now following this link
dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt

"infringing content beginning on craftbukkit build #1597 and currently ending at craftbukkit build #3115"

I am sorry but I do not not know which version this would be (00703_1.1-R1 ??).
DHLF, Sep 9, 2014

As in, shouldn't the earlier download links he didn't participate in be available?

Tylev, Sep 9, 2014

According to his DMCA? Yes.. but I am missing them too.
Maybe it was easier to tag the whole thing instead each version
DHLF, Sep 9, 2014

Pretty sure the downloads from dl.bukkit.org don't start at #1, and he simply contributed before the earliest build available there. Therefore, all the builds contained his code.
Lolmewn, Sep 9, 2014

Ah, understood. Thanks lolmewn.
Tylev, Sep 10, 2014

@Lolmewn
Thank you for your correction. I have never scrolled back that far so I missed that

As if there wasn't enough drama this week already.

Remember a fortnight ago how there was all that confusion over a developer who tried to shut down the development of the Bukkit project for Minecraft, only to discover that he didn’t have the rights to own the project and that everything was fine and dandy? Well, as it turns out this week, the waters are still more than unsettled.

First off, the basics: CraftBukkit is a Minecraft plugin that’s been floating around for the last few years, giving vastly more power to admins over their servers and enabling a range of highly popular features. It began as an open-source project by four members and quickly grew into a huge community venture.

After about a year, Mojang began the process of acquiring Bukkit and in doing so, also hired some of the project’s main programmers for itself. Earlier this year, the team working on Bukkit opted to discontinue development, which led to the confusion and revelations ago two weeks ago about who actually owned the project.

From there, things get a little murky. It’s suggested that the project team was unable to reach an agreement with Mojang about the changes to Minecraft’s EULA and from there, Wesley “wolvereness” Wolfe, one of the Bukkit admins, filed a DMCA claim, resulting in the mod being taken down.

The DMCA claim states that CraftBukkit uses code of Wolfe’s and because of Mojang’s intention to not permit “the inclusion of any of its proprietary Minecraft software … within the Bukkit project to be included in or made subject to any GPL or LGPL licence”, the mod is in violation of its own original GPL/LGPL licence.

That’s my general understanding, at least, which could be entirely inaccurate. But then again, it’s all a little convoluted. If you want to follow the e-drama in greater detail, you’re best off giving the Reddit and Bukkit threads in greater detail. Just note that the latter is 23 pages long and the rabbit hole is more than a little deep.
