I discovered something interesting in the new version of Minecraft (1.8) when you customize your world and lower the starting block of the oceans. In the screen shots below I lowered the ocean block start to 47. What's interesting is the the normal biome land does not lower also, but instead the 16 levels of ocean floor are exposed. And, when you find an ocean temple it is still under water because it is surrounded by water blocks in of itself. Also, there is a new creature, looks kind of like a blow fish and shoots what appears to be an airstream of bubbles at squid forcing them to drop an ink sack. I stared at one up close and personal and it did not attack, so they appear to be harmless to players. Oh, the seed I used for this world was 0123456789ABCDEF and you spawn real close to an ocean temple.
