CHAPTER 1

It all started one seemingly peaceful evening. I sat and stared out the window of my little wood cabin nestled in a thick forest. I was beginning to doze off as I watched another beautiful sunset through hundreds of leaves. Suddenly, a thick fog began to settle over the trees, blanketing everything in gray. "Odd," I mumbled to myself. I stood and slowly began to walk to my window. I jumped as my dog raised the hair on her neck and began barking furiously. I rushed over to her bed where she stood. "Shh, shh, it's okay," I told her, trying to sound calm. I wasn't calm at all. She quieted down but kept standing there, rigid with a terrified look in her eyes. I began walking to my window again. Suddenly, a huge gust of wind blew the window open. I had to shield my face as hundreds of leaves blew off the trees at me, as if trying to suffocate me. After a moment the wind died down. As I looked up and squinted through the mist, my heart beating a mile-a-minute, I saw two glowing dots peek out from behind a tree. My heart skipped a beat and I nearly fell over backwards. One thought filled my head and my heart with terror: Herobrine has come for me. That's the last thing I remember before I lost conscienceness.

CHAPTER 2

All night my dreams were tainted with me being alone in horrible places and feeling pain without knowing where it was coming from. The whole time I didn't know what was happening, but at the same time I knew exactly what was happening. All night in my dreams I knew that Herobrine was going to kill me. For some reason, all night I felt like my brain was partially awake, but at the same time I was a deep, deep sleep.
The next morning I woke up to my dog, Rose, licking my face. I tried to sit up, but my head was throbbing so much I nearly passed out again. I laid on my back for a minute, waiting for the pain to pass. My dog jumped on my chest, making me gasp, forcing me to breathe. I coughed for a few moments, scaring Rose away. The killing pain in my head eased up a bit. As I sat up, my forever loyal Rose yipped happily and rushed to my side. She began licking my face again and whsimpering with delight. I laughed; something I never thought I would do again after the previous terrible night. Suddenly I remembered that I was going to die at the hands of a legend. I hugged Rose, buried my face in her soft fur, and, against my will, began sobbing.
I slowly stood, stumbled, steadied myself again, and began walking toward the window. My hands were sweating and my whole body was shaking. I stared at the floor, not daring to look up. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to gather up enough courage to look out the window. I sucked in a shaky breath, cringing as I looked up. My eyes grew wide as I stood gaping at the perfectly clear day, shut window, and hundreds of bare trees in front of me.

CHAPTER 3

It took me forever to gather up enough courage to step out my door. The air was icy and I was chilled to the bone in minutes. I don't know why, and I didn't know where I was going, but I suddenly started walking into the forest of bare, twisted trees. Rose yipped and dashed out the open door after me. She whimpered as a huge gust of wind whistled through the long grass. I was terrified, and I could sense that Rose was, too. I kept telling myself "Turn around. TURN AROUND AND GO BACK HOME!!" As much as I fought against this creepy invisible force, willing me on, my feet kept carrying me forward. After only 20 minutes of trekking through what was once a forest I felt numb from cold. The sun was clear and high in the sky, but it was dark, and the sky was a pale bluish-gray, like dusk.
After a while, I couldn't feel my feet anymore. I could only hear the swishing of grass under my feet. Rose was shivering; I couldn't tell if it was from fear, or cold, or both. I was beginning to grow a bit drowsy, but I knew I couldn't let myself fall asleep. I was jolted awake as I realized I was no longer walking on grass, but on what felt like ice. I looked down at my feet - they hadn't frozen off yet - and I saw it wasn't ice, but glass. The ground was made of glass, with what appeared to be molten lava under it. It was eerie, the glass having lava under it but still being ice-cold. Beside me, Rose started growling. She was laying on her belly and glancing around nervously. I suddenly became aware that we weren't alone.

CHAPTER 4

I’m not sure why, but my first instinct was to squeeze my eyes shut. I just wanted everything to go away. I wanted to go back to my little house. I wanted to wake up from this nightmare. Of course, I had no such luck. My eyes snapped open as a breeze send a chill down my spine. “It feels like something is breathing down my neck,” I thought to myself. Rose jerked her head around. Her eyes suddenly grew wide as she seemed to focus on something behind me. My heart skipped a beat and I broke into a cold sweat. I had never seen her this terrified before. I slowly drew in a shaky breath, bit my lip, and spun around.
I saw nothing but bare trees disappearing into a low-hanging fog. Confused, I just blinked. I swear there was something behind me, I had felt someone’s - Herobrine’s - eyes boring into the back of my neck. I slowly turned in a circle. My heart raced as I began to realize that wherever I turned, Herobrine was always behind me. I knew that there was no way to escape his trap now, so I did all that I could do. I kneeled on the ground, pulling Rose close to my chest, and, against my will, I started to cry.

CHAPTER 5

I don’t know how long I slept, but I woke up stiff from cold. I still had my arms wrapped around Rose. I tried to sit up, but my head was spinning too much. I laid back down and rubbed my eyes to try to clear my head. I winced as my hand brushed my forehead. I looked at my fingers. They were tinted red, as if I had rubbed dried blood off my skin. More gently this time, I brought my hand up to my head and carefully felt around my face for any wounds. From what I could tell, I had a gash running from the center of my forehead to my left earlobe, but it had already scabbed and was starting to itch. I clenched my fists, digging my fingernails into my palms, to keep myself from touching it more, in fear of reopening it. “Wait,” I said to myself, “How long have I been asleep!? How long ago did this happen!?” More awake now, I sat bolt upright. I looked at the ground where my head had been. It was stained red, as I had expected it to be. I shook all terrible thoughts and questions from my head, and glanced down at Rose. She was laying on her stomach, rear-end in the air, tail wagging, looking playful and happy. Almost too happy, maybe? Definitely. The first thought that came to my mind was “I’m dead. I died, and so did Rose, and now we’re here.” I shook the thought from my head when I thought of Rose dying. I looked at Rose. It seemed like she was happy, but was she really? She was too smart to be happy at a time like this. That’s when I noticed that her eyes looked glazed over, and blank, like she wasn’t really seeing me. Something had happened to her. Of course, my first instinct was to check her any injuries, and see if anything could have damaged her brain. As I drew close to her she bared her teeth, and snarled at me. I jumped back, shocked. She’d never done anything like this before. What was I supposed to do?? I love Rose! I wasn’t going to just leave her there, no matter how dangerous she was at that moment. I was going to get her back, no matter what it was going to take.
