Ave, Amicus!


We’ve been hard at work in all areas of development–
one day we’re building, the next we’re modelling, the next we’re
texturing, and the cycle is keeping us fresh and motivated with the
project. All in all, we’re making a lot of progress, and we’re proud to share a lot of it with you!


How we’ve approached development is by drawing ourselves a
roadmap based on cultures, periods, gameplay demands, and such. The
main priorities have always been to scratch the itch that RomeCraft
never fulfilled by introducing new cultures with the Greeks,
Egyptians, Gauls and Germans having received major updates in material.


We’ve been focusing mainly on the Greeks over the last
month, given their influence and impact in Anatolia and the Near East.
We’re almost finished with the helmets, with a few more tweaks here and
there, and we’ve recently upgraded our shields to be more consistent
with the level of quality across the board. When we started the project
last year we were brand new to model creation and texturing, so we do
find ourselves going back to assets made back then and quickly upgrading
them to our standard.





We’re currently looking at 13 scutum designs with different colour variations, resulting in more than 100 unique scutum designs
by the time we’re finished. This will be our main priority for the next
few weeks, alongside updates to the Roman helmets that will truly set them
apart from past iterations of RomeCraft.


The hoplon is another example of an early asset build,
where originally it was just a plain round circle; we’ve given the
hoplon and aspis more volume to give it that curvature and look much
more to standard. We’ve opted to go for a balance of model detail and
‘minecraft-ness’, that allows the player to opt for more personalized armor and shields.
This will coincide with our server's design of faction-based roleplay where factions

will equip themselves in appropriate armor and banners that represent their cultures.



Celtic and Gallic flavour has been included as well with 10 different hex shields and a
whole bunch of oval shields that will be server-exclusive!

With the setting of the pack, it was important for us to
focus on those main cultures prominent in the area – the Celts, Greeks,
and Romans are all being shown a lot of love, with us
furnishing block textures so that no town or person looks the same.

Players will be able to see exactly what tribe, cohort, city, family a person
belongs to simply by how they’re dressed (something impossible in past
packs). We want to give players that freedom to create their own stories
and histories, and giving people a whole plethora of customization
options goes a long, long way for that!


We’ll be releasing more updates of our progress over the
coming month – we’re finally at a point where we’re able to post regular
updates on the pack and server, and we’re itching to keep posting! Next
update will be more equipment, our new helmets, and some building
showcases :)
