Today, I am here to tell you about something interesting that I have noticed on PMC. Downloads.
What do they mean?
When you download somebody's work, you are basically stating: "Hey, I think this looks interesting, and I would like to try it out." Now, this is good, but I've noticed lately that some people think that it's fun to "troll" people, and download their work, and not do anything.
Download Trolls, and publicity
When these trolls do this, they think it is funny or mean, but it basically says: "Who gives a banana about your work? I don't care how much effort you put into this." They don't say this of course. Now, the other thing I've seen people (mostly modders) do, is have their friends download their work 10,000,000,000 (10 billion) times, and get on the most popular. Now this isn't fair. And by the time you are reading this, (or maybe I was wrong) this issue may be fixed: Downloads should only be counted by computer, not by how many times you press the button. Another problem with the friends-download method, is friends will download 20,000 times WITHOUT PERMISSION. My friend did this to one of my mods, and told me I should thank him. Wow. That is sad, isn't it? Well you know what I said? I said to him: "Dude, I didn't want that. I don't want credit for work I didn't do." Now, that is what you are supposed to do, but you will lose friends if you use this example: "WHAT THE HECK YOU FREAKING IDIOT! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO DO THAT!" See how rude that sounded? Yeah, downloads are weird
Computer Space
Not only does downloads affect how popular things are, but they also take up computer space. Now, this isn't your fault. If you want somebody to blame, blame Mojang. In the code, I found at least 5 different ways to turn 3 different files into one. The mods and projects and skins take up so much space, I have a folder labeled specifically for Minecraft stuff, and in there there are a few folders: Mods, Skins, Projects, Server ips. Ok, so there isn't many ways to fix this... BUT! I HAVE FIGURED OUT A SOLUTION THAT CAN CLEAR A FEW GIGS OFF OF A COMPUTER! There is one easy step: Every update, delete EVERYTHING outdated. It's as simple as that. Piece of... pie. Anyway that's it for this section.... and the blog!
