I had an idea, and idea I kept practicing on, improving on.
Every other day, I will look for a brand new server, and start a new home near spawn.
and I will do something, something silly. I don't know if this is an original idea or not, but it has been effective for me.
anyways, my idea: Dig straight down, but safely, always.
and I would always be able to go back to the surface
what i need: lots of wood
What i did lots of ladders:
what i started with: just a pickaxe and a crafting table
and it began.
but this isn't what i did the first time, i was a fool.
I dug straight down... without concern, and i..... fell into a lake of lava.....
and lost what i had earned
I learned from this.
but i didn't quit. I froze the lava, and continued
and i dug, and i got my items back
I created my first Dwell Well
It's a bit messy, but, eh, whatever.
a while later, i quit this server, it was too empty
I started a new one, and started new ways to do it, and it lead me to this
I took trees and started a little hole, my second Dwell well, still crude, still ugly.
But it became a home, survivable, safe.
but once again, the server was too empty, and i left it.
and I made a 3rd well, on my 3rd server.
and for once, it was a true well,
what i did was,
I made signs, to hold water, and I dug down again. a 2 block length, placing ladders and doing what I had to.
i was always very close to spawn, and people always ignore where I was. they always got distracted by the chests and then left to a direction i misled them to to keep them away.
i was never griefed, not even by the griefers.
and i was safe.
but, my well was still crude, and the server, always died.
My progress: I always dug straight down until i reached the bedrock layer I made an area large enough to supported a bed, and table, and furnace, and the ladder system, at the bottom of the ladder was a two block deep hole of water, so I can safely fall into it, i did this in ever well there after.
things kept changing, i kept improving my idea.
I evolved into doing 2x2 holes, the same size as the well on the surface.
this needed twice as many ladders, but i was okay with it.
eventually the admin of some servers i used to go to missed me.
and looking back. what i accomplished in such a short time on all of them
it was.. staggering
but my process was too messy, so i changed the way i did the process of mining out my ever growing hole in the world.
I started a new well, one more time, on another new server, that was filled daily, so I was never alone
layers of water held up by signs, a pit of a 2x2x2 cube of water on or near the bedrock layers, i made my tunnels 4 blocks wide, every 5th block had a torch, the 6th block was always the 1st block I counted. i earned my diamonds, my iron, my gold, my redstone, every time. and then a new idea sparked, I can expand the mine, the walls I used to hold the torches became pillars.
when i hit lava, i always mined a block under it in my floor so it would never spread, lava is a good source of fuel, i was never upset by finding it. i only changed directions when mining.
the well was never dry, for it wasn't a well for water, but a well for metals, jewels, and stone itself. and it was a home, a safe haven that would always expand on the bottom of the world
And thus, I have improve my technique into it's current state.
Walls of lava, my fuel. ladders to the surface. waterholes that saved my life when I plunged into the depths of my home in a hurry. materials and everything, gathered in speed. everything was good. and I was happy. The illusion that my well was just an empty thing, that no one lived in this hole, but it was always me. there. hidden away, at the very beginning.
And anyone was allowed to join me. if you mined, you kept what you get, for this home isn't just my home, this home, this.. dungeon of protection, was for everyone who dared enter it. I choose to live like this. and i choose to help people, they could do whatever they wanted, i didn't care. i was always rich, i always had a back up home hidden away with my true materials. or something. the Well was just that, a Well, and it was where I Dwell, for I am the Dweller of the Well, and it is just.
