Frank Lloyd Wrong

Of all the architectural styles we build in as Minecrafters, time and time again, there is one style I see that's almost as popular as the generic medieval castle. That would be the "modern" style of house. The style mostly (or entirely) inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Google him if you're building "modern" houses and have never heard that name before.

Now, I may not be the best builder in Minecraft (far from it), but I absolutely abhor that style of building. Perhaps I am alone in this mindset, but it does nothing but put me off. To me, they look like a child of the 60s wanted to design a space/sci-fi house. Just bland, geometric shapes, flat on top of flat, giant windows, random shapes jammed into the building, and they just don't look like a house as I'd think of it. Usually the most interesting features are the ones that aren't technically part of the building itself, but the nature or natural elements around it. They feel so cold and unwelcoming, better suited to be modern art museums than a place for someone to live and relax. I'm sure someone reading this might think that I just don't get it, or understand it, and perhaps I don't, but if that is the case, I'm not sure I'd want to get it.

There is nothing about a modern house I can really appreciate, and I'm naturally biased against all Minecraft builds that take on this style. Of all the eras and style of architecture from around the world one could choose to build that would be so much more pleasing to the eye (at least my eye) and give something for the viewer to really take in, the people of Minecraft have latched onto this style in a dissatisfying manner. I can only imagine, now with concrete blocks of simple, flat color that it will be even easier for people to build more of these eyesores. I just wish the people of the overworld would have latched onto something else.
