STORY:
War. War never changes.
The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower.
But war never changes.
In the 21st century, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: Petroleum and Uranium. For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the US would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.
In 2077, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilization would struggle to arise.
The impact of the nukes sent thousands of tons of ash and pollution into the atmosphere. The sky became black, causing a darkening of the sky over the Eastern Hemisphere. As predicted by the great astronomer Carl Sagan, nuclear winter descended upon Asia and Central Europe.
Only few survived, those who fled underground. The Americans prepared for this disaster and designed huge Vaults to house large groups of its population, and many affluent Europeans fled to underground bunkers in Greenland and Switzerland.
However, after the Great War ended, England was a desolate wasteland. Civilization had disappeared, everything was razed. Everything except London. Near the start of the Great War, the Prime Minister deployed radar jamming systems and laser-defense mechanisms on top of the tallest buildings in London. Of the 94 warheads aimed at the city, 6 hit their mark, destroying much of the city. All that was left was most of the City Of London, the 'original' section of London built in medieval times, and a portion of the surrounding area. (See picture)
Although the city was saved, the people were not. Radiation caused the local populace who survived the bomb above ground to be mutated into brain dead ghouls. However, a group of noble warriors remained above ground and lived- 10000 meters above ground.
They were the SAS, British super-soldiers equipped with the only power armor in Britain. 60 soldiers departed to Iceland to sabotage a Chinese missile silo with a warhead pointed right at the center of London. This missile was a special variant of the Russian 'Tsar Bomba', a nuclear missile that could destroy the whole of France. However, this missile was geared to deliver less destruction... but more radiation. If this missile was launched most of england would no longer be habitable. They were successful in their mission, and were flying back to London when the bombs dropped. Since the end of the Great War, they lived above the clouds in a modified D-Class Super Helicarrier. After a year of continuous flight, the helicarrier had to be landed for its supply of fuel was at an end, its nuclear power source was destroyed by the EMP blast following the detonation of the nukes.
The SAS soldiers found London in bad shape, the populace who did not shelter underground during the detonation were mutated beyond belief, if not killed. As they ventured further into the city, they met up with other survivors who emerged from their underground bunkers and subway stations. On that very day, the sky became relatively dark, and it started to snow. The SAS settled down with the other survivors, and they all established a community hoping to preserve same parliamentary democratic principles of pre-war Britain throughout this apocalypse. They called it the 'New British Union'. The SAS members founded The Order Of The Flying Dagger which would train NBU youths to become physically suited to the post-apocalyptic environment and protecters of the NBU by putting them through a training program very similar to what they went through when they joined the SAS.
This was in 2077. Today it is 2258. Many more people have emerged from their underground shelters, and the British Wasteland has blossomed into many diverse factions struggling for power in this desolate country. The Order Of The Flying Dagger (OFD) has become a more military-based organization and tries to maintain peace, but there will always be outlaws and bandits and scavengers and slavers.
The New British Union is at war with a group of Neo-Nazi's who regard Hitler as their god, and the OFD are hard at work protecting the citizens of the Wasteland from the harsh 'Patriots', a guild of people who oppose the tactics of the NBU. Instead of leading lives controlled by the NBU, they wish to revolt like the Americans in the 1700's to break away from the New British Union. To achieve their goals, they often commit savage acts of violence.
Now, the Nuclear Winter has come fully into play. It is pitch-black at night, and dark during the day, and everything is coated in a layer of snow. You were born the son of a OFD Lieutenant, descended from one of the original SAS members who founded the NBU. Will you aid the NBU, join the Neo-Nazi Regime, or revolt against the principles governing the Union Wasteland? Or will you choose lead your own life, wether it be goodo ¦ or evil? No matter which path you take, your life will be fraught with danger, death, and deception. For waro ¦ War never changes.
