Eva could see the White Cliffs of Dover now. She was close, really close. She was finally going home after years of exploring and researching. The plane flew past the cliffs, towards the direction of London. Towards the direction of Eva's home. She remembered the day she left her home with her best friend.

That day, twenty years ago, Eva was walking home from school. When she reached the foot of her apartment building, she saw a large truck parked in front of the building. Eva's parents were standing beside the truck, talking to a clever-looking man. As Eva walked closer, she realised that the man was her uncle. She hated her uncle, her aunt and her cousin for they all hated her. She eyed her uncle with disgust as she passed him and he gave her a sidelong look of hatred.

"Eva, I'm afraid you're gonna have to live with your uncle and his family from now on." said Eva's father with a sigh. Eva's mother was crying softly, hot tears rolling down and dripping onto the cement sidewalk. "Why?" asked Eva. "This I cannot tell you until you are old enough." answered Eva's father, "You will move to their house tomorrow night so I want you to pack up your things tonight. Alright?" A plan was forming in Eva's mind. She was not going to be abused by her uncle's family for the rest of her lives. She would not stand it. She would leave her home tonight after her parents are all asleep. She nodded to her father and walked up the stairs to the 7th floor, where their apartment was located.

Eva walked into her room and packed everything she might need for her journey. She grabbed a rucksack and put some clothes inside. She then emptied her jar of pocket money and put them in a little section of the rucksack. Next, she sneaked into the kitchen and grabbed some snacks. Now Eva only had to decide where she would go first when she left and the answer came to her mind immediately. Holly's home. Holly had been best friends with Eva since their first grade and Holly had told Eva all her family' problems. Holly's mother and father were divorced and Holly chose to go with her mother. A year after the divorce, Holly's mother found a new boyfriend. That man had always been mean to Holly but Holly's mother never knew. Then another year later, they married and Holly was abused constantly by the man. Eva knew that Holly would be willing to help her, maybe even run away with her.

Night crept into London silently, covering the city in darkness. The orange streetlamp popped on providing the citizens with light. Eva's parents went to sleep early while Eva waited for midnight to come. Eva had written a note to her parents and had stuck it on the dining table. The note went like this:
Dear mom and dad,
I have decide to run away because I do not wish to live my life in fear. Please do not worry about me because I will be just fine. I promise I will come back. Thank you for caring for me for the 12 years. Bye!

Eva checked her belongings one last time and crept out of the apartment. She ran down the stairs and into the streets of London. She knew how to get to Holly's home only by the London Underground and so she walked into the nearest station. However, before she could even read the map, someone shouted her name. She whirled around to see Holly standing there.
