How can Google Docs be useful to your server?

Well, in many ways.

I've been using Google Docs (http://docs.google.com) for a while now, and I can definitely guarantee they will make administrating of ANY server much, much easier.

For instance, let's say you want to keep track of all punishments your staff issues.
One way would be to have them tell you through MSN or Skype every time they ban someone.
That would work, but wouldn't be very practical neither useful in a long perspective.

Another way would be to create a simple form using Google Docs, and tell your staff to fill it out every time they punish someone. I have created an example for you, here: http://bit.ly/criminalexample
Google Docs will store all the entries in a spreadsheet, which will be accessible anywhere, any time.

For example, let's say you've been using this method for months. A long-term member of the server comes to you and applies for staff position. Now, you could go to your spreadsheet full of punishment logs, and look up every single rulebreaking the user has done. Very useful.

Or, let's say you just want a simple, easy-to-create staff application form. Nothing easier.
You just create another simple form with questions to your applicant. Once again, Google Docs will store all responses in a handy spreadsheet. There will be nothing easier to pick the most suiting applicants from the entries.
I, for example, use Google Docs for my server staff applications. You can see it here: http://bit.ly/astariastaff

You must be thinking it will probably take ages to create such form. Well, you are wrong.
A form like those I presented you before will take no more than 20 minutes to create, usually around 10 minutes or less. No scripting knowledge is required. Google Docs even gives you a wide array of different templates you can choose for your form.

The possibilities are endless. Google Docs is useful for both massive servers, with thousands of players daily, to small humble communities.

And Google Docs is 100% free. It won't cost you a cent to do all this for your server.

I hope this article was useful for everyone who wasn't familiar with Google Docs or hasn't thought about using it yet.
I strongly suggest you to try it.
