Today, I was looking through a section on PMC forums. "Shops & Services", to be precise.
The first thing that caught my eye was an enormous amount of GFX and signature services threads. Okay, I'm fine with that. But almost every single one of the creators of these threads advertised themselves as "professionals". And I am not okay with that.
First of all, a professional designer is someone who:
1) Has learned GFX in school.
2) Preferably works full-time as a GFX designer.
3) Has at least 2 years of experience with making graphics.
4) Is at least 20 years old. No, really.
I looked through a massive amount of threads. And I didn't see a SINGLE person to meet these requirements.
The signatures were horrible, childish and took a maximum of 10 minutes to create.
Most of them were just stock pictures with an ugly text on it.
An example:
Is THIS what you call a professional design? Really?
Now, let's look at another piece of artwork.
See the difference?
Now, don't tell me that "every person starts out as a newbie, let them improve" because if you are a newbie, DON'T make a thread offering your "professional" services.
Just, stop making those threads. It makes my eyes bleed and brain smoke.

However i do agree with you with the fact that people should practice more before offering services. I regularly see people's threads titled 'Pro Graphicz etc etc', and well, let's just say they're far from pro.
Anyways, a well needed thread, and it should be seen by alot of PMC'ers. Diamonded in hope it'll get popular.
It is a signature design made by a very good professional designer I know, he made it for a contest.
Any more questions?
Don't need to work full time in the industry to be considered professional.
However I agree. No one on PMC is a professional graphics designer as far as I know. Most of them suck anyway.
However, there are people who can be considered professional graphics designers in PMC.
Very few, but there is.
The fact that there's only so few here is probably caused by the average age of the community.
