The villagers had given us camels to continue on our journeys.
The next stop on our map took us over the desert.
“It’s not to scale,” Grace muttered, “this desert could take us half a day to cross, could take us a month.”
“Or more.”
“Don’t make me worry!”
The undead lurked in broad daylight here, but the flat lands made them easier to spot.
Husks of men attacked us, their attacks only making our hunger worse.
Soon enough, the sand turned red, and the holes became higher.
“These cactuses are so spiky,” I said, “if they weren’t I try eating one.”
“I might anyway,” said Grace.
“That’d be a poor decision.”
“We already ate the camels.”
“An even poorer decision, yes.”
We set up a campfire against a huge stone wall.
We couldn’t see a thing outside from the little light it gave us, five blocks away was total darkness.
“I…”
“Don’t talk,” Grace snaps. I wonder what her problem is.
“We should get some sleep.”
“Wait,” Grace says, “look.”
There were two purple eyes glowing.
A man walked into view, a tall man, all black. It seemed to have no mouth.
Grace stared. I stared too, unwittingly.
Suddenly, the thing appeared in front of my face, and screamed.
Grace drew her sword, and hacked at it.
She slashed it, but then it disappeared.
We thought we were safe for a moment into it came back into view and attacked me again.
“Ah!”
Grace notched an arrow, but the dark man was gone again.
“We’ll have to use the sword,” Grace said.
The man attacked again, and again, but this time we were ready, and Grace had nearly defeated it.
But it broke her chest plate.
Grace tried to eat some bread, but we were losing.
“Grace, use the bucket!” I cried, and she did.
The creature screamed and faded into nothing.
I scooped up the water, but there was something else.
A pearl.
“Mine,” I said, and snatched it up.
“That was an Ender-man.” Said Grace.
“I thought we didn’t believe in those.”
“Strange things have happened, my friend. C’mon, let’s get going.”
