The Guardian is a bizarre creature that is horribly difficult to texture. So I’ll do my best at explaining how it works.

Let’s start by explaining terminology. When I say “cube” it’s not exactly a 1x1x1 cube. It’s basically a prism. When the models are built, they work on a system where prisms are created and placed against each other. Think of pig. It has a head cube, a body cube, and 4 leg cubes. So the Guardian works in the same way. There are cubes smashed together that trick you into thinking it’s one whole creature. Right, let’s get started now.

The front face is the standard front of the Guardian. On the face, there is a rectangle (marked with dark purple) that is the limits of the pupil movement. The pupil is found next to the spines. So ensure this rectangle is devoted to the eyeball.
From here, things get tricky. The body works on a bit of hills and valleys technique. The best way to understand it is to split things up. Looking at the front face, there are faces that texture the top, bottom and sides of that “cube”. So looking at the face, it should be obvious where they connect. Lines have been given to show where they link.
The darkened areas with X’s across them are innards. Or so is my guess. I can’t find a state where they show. If you know anything about this, tell me. Otherwise, just texture it as meat. You will notice that the tail fin crosses up into the innards section. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE THIS TRANSPARENT! Otherwise you’ll have a plane sitting on top of the tail fin. If want this…go ahead.

Back to the body now. Looking at the image, the orange panel to the right of the front face, is the back face of the body. Basically, it’s the face that is directly opposite of the front face if you think about it in terms of on the creature. I hope that made sense.
Now the, the textures make jump. Looking at the main body area, you’ll see that I have put on linking lines. Just join them up. Imagine the darkened areas with X’s on them are just a covered area of the face. You probably don’t even need to texture them.
Here is another way to think of it. Imagine a hot dog with a bun that wraps all the way around the sausage. The sausage still has a face there underneath the bun. It still has texture. But you can’t see it. So the cube with the eye attached to it, is the “sausage”. The bun is coming up.

On the image, underneath the main body cube are the panels that are placed on the left+right and top+bottom of the main body. They are situated right next to each other so it may be difficult to work out which is which. The image should make this clear.
The odd thing about these panels is the way the outward faces are displayed. For the left and right section, it would appear that one of the sides never sees light of day and it just flips the cube for the other side. However, the top and bottom panels are just duplicates of each other and shifted along with z-axis. Kind of odd how there is a difference…

Next is the tail. These are obvious and need no mentioning. But they are scattered across the image.

Now then, the tail fin. The dark green face of the fin exists directly in the centre of the tail. When texturing, you can texture the other faces, but the “cube” is shifted one unit to the side. So my suggestion is to only texture that dark green face.

I hope that made sense. It's really quite easy once you understand it. If I didn't make myself clear, just tell me and I'll try and help you out. If you want a guide for texturing the rabbit, look here.

Thanks for doing this, it should help a lot in tweaking the details of my guardian in my texture pack. I really don't like the way the tail fin looks on mine right now.
