I have seen many rants about the new mob, a.k.a. The Guardian. I  was thinking, "why don't we stop ranting and start learning how to fight these guardians?" I went online and researched about them, and I'll summarize it here. Hope you enjoyed this small guide!

1. Stats
 - 30 health points (takes 5 hits from a diamond sword, 4 critical hits from a bow)
 - deals 2 to 9 damage
 - resistant to lava and fire

2. Behaviour
 - attacks squids and players

 - swims in abrupt charges; when not swimming they sink
 - can live without water, but will attempt to jump into it when on land
 - will swim away and stop attacking when target enters 2 block radius
 - spikes retract when swimming

3. Combat
 - no melee attack
 - uses laser beams
     - charges until bright yellow, deals damage and recharge
     - deals 4 (Easy Mode) to 9 (Hard Mode) damage
     - has a 14 block radius
     - can be stopped by obscuring the beam with solid blocks

 - Spikes
     - similar to Thorns enchantment
     - deals 2 damage
     - not used when the spikes retract

"Well, that's nice, but how do we fight them?"
Here's a few suggestions from Minecraft Wiki:
 - If players must melee a Guardian, they should try to corner it and hope for the best

 - trick it into swimming within melee range (which is very hard)

 - If the Guardian is in shallow water players can use fishing rods to pull it out of the water where players can kill it using melee attacks

 - Entering their territory without armor will almost always lead to a swift death, therefore full diamond gear is recommended (reduces 80% of damage)

 - Respiration III allows you to stay underwater for almost 1 minute before you start taking damage

More suggestions from PMC and myself:
 - A Power II bow is enough to kill a Guardian with 2 full shots. Unfortunately, it is really hard to shoot accurately because arrows will sink down after flying for around 1-2 blocks in the water.

 - Using Depth Strider III with a speed II potion allows you to chase up with Guardians

 - A very effective way to kill a single Guardian is to swim towards it. It will stop attacking, retract its spikes and swim away; attack it before it escapes, and repeat until the Guardian dies

 - Thorns are useless

Also in Dragnoz's lazer video he mentioned that you need to be at least 2 blocks away for the Guardian to attack you. Meaning if you get close enough they wouldn't be able to sight you within 2 or 1/2 blocks. I don't know if that helped or not because melee range seems like that.

Actually if you get within the radius you mentioned they will not attack you but swim away. Then they will attack when you're out of their comfort zone. It's like they're avoiding close combat! Thanks for the information!

Oh in his video the Guardian was in air so it wasn't able to swim away. If they don't like close combat then a Power 2-3 bow is recommended. A Sharpness 1 Diamond Sword would be good also.
