HELP!!!!!!!

I have recently downloaded a basic mod making application. In order to run it, you need java jdk, which I have. The problem is that, whenever I try to run the command: javac, it says "javac is not an internal or external command. I've read about making java jdk part of my path, but whenever I try to do that It doesn't work. Please help me and thanks in advance.
