I'm going to find out Herobrine's true story (for more information, please view my blog: I'm gonna prove Herobrine is real (or not)) Here is what I have found so far:
Herobrine was once a normal man, he was tired of mining and building in the normal world, so he travelled far away, to a land known as the Far Lands. He travelled deeper and deeper into these lands and began mining. He built a beacon, to remember where the mine was out of Gold Blocks, Mossy Cobblestone, Redstone Torches and lit Netherrak (the legendary 'Herobrine Shrine') and continued mining until he found a cave and discovered the only entity he had found in the Far Lands so far: a white-eyed Enderman, that seemed to be some sort of glitched Ender Man. He ran from it as it tried to kill Herobrine, but the Ender Man acted differently to other Ender Men, like it was possesed with some sort of strange force. I have found that disc 11 is based on Herobrine escaping the haunted Ender Man. Herobrine was unfortunately captured and that's all I have gathered on his life story so far...
Here's what I've found in Minecraft relating to Herobrine:
9/09/2012:
Backed up the theory and proved that Herobrine was killed by Ender Men, because he is never found near Ender Men or in the End! Discovered Herobrine's kill list: random signs reading: RIP [Player Name] [Time and Date of Death] Most of the username's have been found only ever in the end, not replying to any messages or tp requests.
24/10/2012:
OMG!!! Okay so, if you translate Hero and Brine into Latin it means Demigod Pickle or Heros Muria, but if you translate Hero and Brine FROM Latin to English it means Master Brin!!!!
13/11/2012:
Okay, my theory is: Herobrine is some sort of 'reflection' glitch which is when F5 fails to render properly and appears as a 'reflection' at the edge of the render distance. That may sound very complicated but thats my theory on Herobrine!
30/3/2013:
Okay so I was playing around in the Nether in creative and I broke through to the surface, it was pretty boring, just some mushrooms, when I saw a yellow structure in the distance, I headed towards it and it turned out to be a building made of Gold Blocks with Iron Bars as windows and an Iron Door. There was a secret way to get in by placing a lever in a certain spot and inside was a large chest with a steve head, an enchanted book (Fire Aspect IV) and a bucket. I decide to go crazy and destroy the house and underneath I find a sign reading:
Herobrine

This is not a lie and I found it in vanilla!!

Today I was playing around with the new feature of using NBTExplorer to change Mob Headswith my friend Lachy. I made it Herobrine, of coarse, and I built a little shrine to 'summon' him. I also played around with item IDs and found that 404 (Herobrine's number) is actually a Redstone Comparator. So I added them to the shrine and wrote a message for Herobrine near the shrine with some gifts. Of coarse I wasn't really expecting anything to happen, it was mainly just for fun, like a séance. After I'd finished the shrine I played Disc 11 and flew far away, out of view of the shrine. It was night time, so I was going to wait until it was morning to check on the shrine. I left the game to hang out with my friend and my little brother. Then, here's the freaky part, I went back to the game and it was still night, I'd been waiting for the time it usually takes for it to become day, but there was something odd, no stars, no moon, no sun, no nothing... I went back to the shrine, nothing was different. So I waited and looked around for the sun, the moon and the stars, but they were just GONE! Nowhere in sight at all, no matter how long I waited. I flew up in the air so far that the ground wasn't rendered, but I STILL couldn't see anything!!!
11/10/2013:
Today, I asked Herobrine to return the sun, the moon and the stars and I repeated the same thing where I go off into the distance etc. And what do you know! They're back!!
19/1/2014:
Today I recreated the world that I made back in 1.3.2, where I first saw Herobrine: www.planetminecraft.com/blog/i-saw-herobrine-1395320/
I remembered that there were no mobs or anything to hurt me until I saw Herobrine! So he must be a watching protector and he left me to fight for myself after I saw him! He was protecting me!
If you want screenshots or etc, I'm more than happy to email you them.
I have also found that not all updates after Beta 1.6.6 say '-Removed Herobrine', here's the list:
