Isn't funny how I am writing this when I am supposed to be doing homework C:

Anyways,
It's almost like I took primary school (elementary school, as you Americans reffer to it) for granted. I hated school, but nowhere near as much as now. Back in primary school, I would go to school, come home, and spent the rest of the day with my mates, or chill out watching TV, but now it feels like that's against the law, in my house at least.

Homework wasn't really a worry in the earlier years of school, maybe a colouring sheet, or a little bit of research. But when we did get homework, it felt like the end of the world. But now when I have only a bit of homework, I feel like the happiest man alive.

I dont get it, in Primary/Elementary School, we were all probably taught 8-8-8, 8 hours work, 8 hours leisure, and 8 hours sleep. I thought, "that's fair enough, and balanced". Now it seems like 14-2-8. I wake up, get maybe 20 minutes to myself before I have to have my breakfeast, get changed and head off to school. I do 7 hours work, and get home at about 3, to then complete the 5 assignments that are due for the next day. That takes me about 6 hours, and it's about 9 o'clock and i start getting ready for bed, maybe getting an hour or so watching youtube.

I find this funny, and stupid. We have all heard rants about how teens are lazy and need to go outside, get more exercise, and do more things in life. Well, listen here....

WE WANT TO, BUT MAYBE IF YOU WOULD KINDLY STOP PILING US WITH ASSIGNMENTS AND OTHER HOMEWORK, WE WOULD HAVE THE TIME, AND ENERGY TO?

That is how I feel, and I feel like shouting it at my TV, radio, facebook page, or whatever whenever teenages and laziness is mentioned. But I feel its true, I want to live my life, do stuff with my friends and family, but I can't under all the stress and depression.

You can disagree with me as much as you want, but homework doesnt benefit you in anyway, other than causing stress, and anxiety. Stop thinking us teenagers aren't looking at the bigger picture, your the ones who need to open your eyes, and realise that it ruins our life, and completely destroys the curriculum of what we learnt in Primary/Elementary school, balanced life-style. We all remember learning that, don't we? It's all apart of being healthy!

I want to.... I want to go outside, do things, "be active", but all this homework is blocking my path. I am fed up with hearing it. Step in our shoes, perhaps go for a walk in them. Perhaps live 6 years in them. As long as it takes to realise, as much as you can proove, we feel like it doesn't benefit us, just causes more stress, and anxiety!

I won't be suprised for a debate to form in the comments, but I can't put up with it. I lay there at my desk, head on my page, stressing out of my mind.

My grandma, a teacher, tells me that it helps us remember what we learnt throughout the day. Yes, that is true. But I don't remember what I am revising because that all goes through my head is "OMG I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO DO AND IT'S SO LATE OMG I'M SCREWWWEEDDD!!!!!"

Now, lets look at the pros and cons of homework:

PROS
  • Homework helps to consolidate and clarify what was learned during the school day.
  • It gives practice with content, concepts and skills.
  • Homework improves performance in standardized tests.
  • It is an extension of classwork that allows students to achieve mastery of the content or skills to be learned.
  • Students do not have enough time during the day to fully understand all the information they are given.
  • Homework facilitates rote learning.
  • It  lets parents see what their children are doing at school.
  • Homework teaches self-discipline, time management and research skills.
  • It reduces time for TV and video games and promotes good study habits.
  • It increases interest in schoolwork when it is corrected quickly.

CONS
  • Homework must be corrected quickly or students get frustrated and lose interest.
  • It can be too burdensome and stressful at times.
  • Homework disturbs family life and prevents students from doing household chores.
  • Parents or relatives may do the homework for the student.
  • Students need time to relax, play and pursue sports and hobbies.
  • Homework can make students too tired after a long day at school.
  • It keeps them up too late at night.
  • Homework is often meaningless busywork which does not promote real learning.
  • Students from middle- and upper-class homes have better resources to help them with homework.

Obviously, I am against homework, but other people have different opinions, you may think homework is good, and I won't argue with you. We all have our own reasons towards our opinions, and everyone has a right to their own.

What's your opinion on homework?

Completely agreed. If people want us to do other things in life, then at least give us the time for it.

What school measures: Knowledge
What school does not measure:
•Persistence
•Curiousity
•Enthusiasm
•Courage
•Leadership
•Creativity
•Civic-minded
•Resourcefulness
•Self-Discipline
•Sense of wonder
•Big-picture thinking
•Compassion
•Reliabilty
•Motivation
•Humor
•Empathy
•Sense of beauty
•Humilty
•Resilience

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with our current education system.

Also homework doesn't give you a chance to discuss with classmates if you have a question or comment.

Honestly, if someone were to start not going to shool after middle school, and not sit on the computer for most of the day, they would learn more IMPORTANT AND RELEVANT things and succeed more in life than someone who gets a full education.

Time to unite the students of PMC.

I didn't find myself to be benefited by homework in grade school. In college, homework is a lot more purposeful - your homework is often things you don't really have time to do in class, like discussions of articles, research papers, or large projects. It isn't just re-iterating what you do in class - and that, for me, was precisely useless. Making every child learn through a system forced on them isn't the way to go. Growing up isn't an industry.

So recently I went back to school, and, my god, they are piling up homework in my pack. I feel like it's much more than usual. Considering the fact that I have to do a "math autobiography" and memorize a poem in two days, I think that's true. Seriously, tomorrow is the first Friday of the school year and I've had (I kid you not, I am not exaggerating) at least 6 stupid "Who are you?" projects. I'd much rather that be just the first day then learn...
I litterally have about 30 minutes of free time, which is more 20 because I tend to pack a lunch at night and pack my bag at night... Oh, how I can't wait until Saturday...
Only to write my "math autobiography".
