Hoppers Explained (Beginner)

Hoppers. They are like pipes in a system. How might you ask? Simple. When you place a chest, then place the hopper on top of it. Then when you throw something in the hopper, (if it is directly above the chest) then it goes down the hopper and into the chest like so:

There is also another way you can do it. Horizontally. By putting the hopper on the side of the
Chest and then drop your item in the hopper, it will go in the chest like so:
See how the hopper is on the side of the large chest?
