Minecraft song are great and they fit the game perfectly, but have you ever wished you could play your favourite song in Minecraft just by putting a disc in a Jukebox? Here is how you can change music discs to any song you like using resorce packs by following these 3 simple steps.

Note: This tutorial is made for Minecraft: Java Edition.

Tutorial

1. Creating a resource pack folder: First of all you need to create a resource pack. You can add your songs to an already existing resource pack, however I recomend creating a seperate resource pack for the songs because it makes turning them on or off without changing textures much easier.
-If you want to add your music to an existing resource pack, you will have to go to assets minecraft folder and (in case it doesn't already exist) create a new folder called sounds and in that folder create a folder called records.
-If you want to create a new resource pack for custom songs I've already made a blank resorce pack with all the folders and all the required settings, but no songs. Download it here

2. Creating sounds files: Minecraft does not suport .mp3 sound files, which is why you have to convert your songs to .ogg format. The easiest way is to use this simple and free-to-use online .ogg file converter. Click here

3. Adding sounds to your resource pack: After converting your file move it to assets minecraft sounds records folder in your resourcepack. Then I suggest you to open Minecraft and pick a music disc in creative inventory. For example you chose the ward disc. You need to rename your .ogg song to ward and equip then resource pack or hit F3 + T to reload it. If you now put the ward disc in a Jukebox it should play your song.
If you are having any issues/concerns look at the Asnwered Questions section bellow.

Answered Questions:

I did everything in the tutorial and the song doesn't play. Can you help?
Many things could be wrong. Try one of the following:
-Read this tutorial again and check if you did anything wrong.
-Make sure the record names contain all lowercase letters (no caps).
-If you have more resourcepacks equiped make sure none of them has a records folder inside the assets minecraft sounds folder. If one does, delete all sounds inside the records folder.
-If nothing plays (not even the original song), check if you have Jukebox & Noteblock sounds turned on.

I downloaded your resource pack preset and I want to use it for a version older than 1.13.
Eventhough the way to change minecraft sounds has been the same since Minecraft 1.6, the pack.mcmetta format has changed over time. I've included formats for all versions prior to 1.13 inside the pack folder. For example fi you want to use this pack in 1.9, delete the pack file and rename the 1.9-1.10 file to pack.

I am using a future of Minecraft and the resource pack doesn't work. Is this tutorial outdated?
If the resource pack says it was made for an older version of Minecraft, the problem could be just the wrong pack format. Open the pack.mcmetta file using Notepad++ (or a similar programme) and change the number 4 depending to a different number. The number depends on your Minecraft version like listed here.
If you have updated the pack format and the original song still plays it means that Minecraft has changed how sounds are stored in a resource pack and this tutorial is outdated.

Can my songs be longer than original records?
Yes, your songs can be much longer (or shorter) than minecraft records. I tried it with a 10 minute sound and the entire song played.

Am I allowed to use copyrighted songs in my resource pack?
It's completelly legal to use copyrighted songs in your resource packs for personal use, however it is illegal to upload a resource pack with copyrighted music to a website or use it on a public server.

Any of the existing records, for example blocks, chirp, wait, 11, cat, etc. Hover over a music disc in the creative inventory and look at the name bellow.
It says “unable to find manifest in pack”. I know I have to manually make one, but if I use another, the pack will not work
HONESTLY, THANK YOU SO MUCH~ this was so helpful~! <3

I did all the steps, but it still plays the original song on the music disc
I renamed it a bunch of times too
Is there something I'm doing wrong??
there is no option when the disc is ripped in CD-ROM.
Is the only condition for that we use to download the song to another and again ripping the disk.
How can I rename the Disc descriptions to fit the songs I change them to?
So I did every step, but when I go into the resourcepacks option it doesn't even show up! Plz help......
I've actually tried making resource packs before and this problem has never happened to me!
Never mind. I just typed the pack.mcmeta code incorrectly.
Is there a way to change the names displayed by the tooltips?
Never mind, I found a video. Edit the .lang files directly.

Use audacity to format it, when you "Export"your file you can set it to create a .oqq file so... yeah I hope it helps :)
what do I do with the 13 and 11 disc do I do 13.ogg and 11.ogg ???
It says that it's incompatible and it's used for another version of Minecraft. Is there a way to update it to the latest version?
Well I got the first problem solved but I can't get the music to play if done the steps exactly and I renamed two songs to "ward.ogg" and "chirp.ogg" and reloaded it but it still plays the original song
How do I rename the .OGG files? I go into properties, but I can't change it.

Were the files .ogg files? Are you sure you did everything correctly?
When i play the music disc there is no sound. Any help?

The folder i put the sound file in, was NOT zipped, because I can't put stuff in zipped folders.

What do you mean by 'not zipped?' The resource pack itself has to be zipped.
Resource packs do not have to be zipped, mine work fine as regular folders.
hey can i add more songs into that one folder... or do i have to keep making new folders and new .mcmeta files etc
Yes, you can add them all into one folder.

Many things could be wrong, check if:
  • You have the resource pack selected
  • The music file is in the records folder in your resource pack
  • The music file is in .ogg format
  • The music file is renamed to the name of the music disc you want to play
  • You play the right music disc in a jukebox

Another thing, do the files have to have caps at all (at start (Example) or full (EXAMPLE) or not (example)), because I have it as stated with no caps and it isn't working.

Try downloading this resource pack: http://www.mediafire.com/download/vbwm66ex6t9b0wu/Custom_Record_Sounds.zip
Move the .zip file to resource packs, then open the .zip file and find the records folder inside this resource pack. Move your songs there and rename them to music discs. I can't exaplain it very well, I hope it helps you

The other user(s) would have to have the sound file and the resource pack/sounds.json setup. If you gave the other users copyrighted songs, you would be committing piracy. All you can do is tell them how to change their resource packs OR you could (if you know how) write your own music or use non-copyrighted music and give them those.
