Hey everyone, just making this tutorial thingy because I have seen all too many servers lost to power hungry administrators and staff members that are often younger than 18 years old. I am writing this for both myself and you, even if you don't own a server, to stop the corruption that may be spreading in your server. Sorry I sound like one of those fake medicine ads right now, don't I?

The First Rule

Firstly, this one is honestly a no-brainer unless you honestly either pick people willy nilly to be staff members or you're new. I can't stress this enough, do not pick random people to be staff members! Seriously, they will mess up your server and a lot of people who apply are power hungry enough in the first place. I'm saying this from personal experience, for example, in 2011 when I first created my server, I just randomly promoted people and guess what happened? LAVA, WATER, AND BEDROCK LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. So seriously, don't take this one lightly.

The Second Rule

Absolutely DO NOT allow your players and staff members to have too much power!! For example, let's say we have 3 staff ranks, Helper, Admin, and Owner. Don't let Helper have access to /ban or /stop, because obviously that's going to cause a lot of chaos and issues, banning for no reason, stopping when you're offline, et cetera. If a player has access to /tempban or something like that, there's clearly a problem here, but for example, Helper having /tempban or /tempmute is alright because it's not permanent. If you have essentials, you can even set maximum amount of hours or minutes that they can set the ban to. 24 is a safe number, but I would not go over 72.

The Third Rule

Don't ask for votes too much, because the behavior you show will rub off on the staff and players and then it'll just be "vote at www.serversite.com for free stuff!" in the chat. This one is one of the simpler ones, so that would be why it's not very long.

The Third (and a half) Rule

The same as above, don't abuse because it will rub off on your staff and it will just be annoying for the players causing them to leave, et cetera.

More will probably be added throughout the week (if I remember)
