Chapter Fourteen
Chapter Fourteen: Strength and Courage

They all looked around to see a tall, old looking man in a magical looking robe. He had a long, white beard that sparkled in the torch light. The look wasn't original at all. In fact, it was the classic look that most wizards would have. Or at least that's what Karen thought, considering that might be only what normal humans thought of them. Though, there was nothing original about him.

Karen just stood there, staring at the man, every muscle in her body shaking like they have never before. She tried to take deep breathes, know it would help, but she was breathing faster and faster with each second until she thought she might pass out.
She finally gathered her courage enough to take another step forward, but it was too much and she fainted and everything went dark.

She woke up just a few seconds later, with Jack, Susie and Kaylee surrounding her and helping her sit up. The room seemed dark and quiet, even as the others were talking with worried faces but all she could hear were the laughs of Zachariah as he watched the young girl struggle to sit up. "Hah! And for a second I was worried when I saw there were four of you, but this'll be easy." He said with a smirk and walked down the stairs, his long, wizard-y robe trailing behind him.

Karen knew these would be her last minutes if she didn't try, so she gathered all her strength and stood up, still shaking but determined to live.

Zachariah moved closer, now just a few feet away. He raised his old hands and a small flame sprouted from them and grew into a flaming sphere the size of his head and held like a ball as if to throw it at her. She held her head in her arms as he threw the flaming ball and shrieked, knowing this was it, and she had failed. But nothing happened. Five more seconds went by and she was still standing there unharmed. She slowly lowered her arms and saw the flaming ball floating in mid-air, just inches from her face. She looked around to see shocked faces on everyone else in the room, staring at her and the flaming ball that should have killed her. Then Kaylee's voice rang in her head, "You have magic too. You don't know how to use it yet, but you will."

"I'm the chosen one," Karen said, feeling stronger and more courageous than she had in a long time. "And I have magic too."

Bleh, this is taking forever to finish -_-'

Chapter Thirteen
Chapter Thirteen: A Close Future

That night, they were still in the forest so had to camp. Kaylee had brought a cloth tent along with sleeping bags expecting they'd be needed. They set them up and ate some wild berries and some strange animal that Kaylee had brought from home. Whatever it was, it tasted like a dream, especially after their long day of traveling. After they ate, they rinsed their mouths out with the tasty, magical water and got into their sleeping bags. Kaylee blew out the candle and the night went dark.

Karen was the first to wake up after what little sleep she got. She was thinking hard about her battle against Zachariah. She remembered Kaylee telling her she had magic and that she would figure out how to use it when the time came. But she wondered what she would be doing with it. Would she lift him and throw him with her mind? Would she throw fire at him? Would she make a storm and zap him with electricity? These thoughts seemed to never end as she grew more and more nervous about her close future. Just two days ago, she was a normal middle school girl living a normal live. But everything changed and she expected it would never be the same.

After everyone else woke up, they packed up the tent and sleeping bags, ate a quick breakfast, packed that up and continued on their journey.

A while later, they saw something that made Karen's heart drop to the ground. They stood just about thirty feet away from Zachariah's huge stone castle. The closer they got, the slower they went. And finally, they were a few feet away from the big wooden door. They dismounted their horses and walked up to the door. They wondered if they should knock or just go in. Finally, Karen took a deep breath and shoved open the door.

They walked inside to find a huge stone room lit with lanterns and torches. There were doors and staircases and they couldn't decide which way to go. Karen was just about to pick a random door, when they herd a loud, menacing laugh come from the top of one of the staircases. "I've been waiting a long time for you, Karen Ash."

Chapter Twelve
Chapter Twelve: Fairy Forest

"I'm dying of boredom!" Susie complained about half an hour later. "No your not." Said Karen. "Yes I am!" Susie yelled back. "How about we tell stories?" Kaylee suggested. "Ok!" Susie exclaimed. She always loved stories. She sat there for about three seconds then said, "I can't think of anything." "That's ok." Kaylee said with a chuckle. "I have one." "Yay!" Susie exclaimed. Kaylee giggled then began. "A bit after Zachariah took over, people weren't quite this poor. There was still some wealth. After he took over, people, of course, didn't want him as their leader. So there was an uprising. People fought against him but in the end he won. He had killed so many people. . ." She trailed off. "That's horrible." Said Jack. "Yes. My mother died in that war. And my father almost did." Kaylee said in a sad voice. "That's wasn't a very fun story." Said Susie. Kaylee chuckled and then said, "I'm sorry. I couldn't think of anything else." "It's fine." Said Karen. "I think I have one."

About an hour later the road ended and they found themselves standing at the edge of a high cliff. They looked at the beautiful view and Karen saw something far beyond the mist. "Is that Zachariah's castle?" She asked. She saw Kaylee nod and gulped hard thinking about what lie ahead.

They continued down a pathway going down the steep cliff. Karen looked around and saw pink trees with neon green birds flying around them. They made amazing music but it wasn't like what Karen was used to. It was more upbeat. Below them, Karen saw light blue grass with amazingly colored flowers that she didn't even know what the colors were called. There were little bugs hovering around them making strange sounds. They weren't like the ones back home. When they finally got to the ground, they entered a forest with bright trees. And as they entered, a heavy fog came in and made it difficult to see. "We're going through here?" Asked Susie. "Yep." Kaylee replied. "Your sure you know the way, right?" Asked Karen. "Of course! I've been through here dozens of times." Kaylee said cheerfully. Though Karen, Jack and Susie were still nervous.

They continued on through the forest, squinting to see through the fog. They then came upon a small pond. Light leaking through the branches shined on it beautifully. There were lily pads and hot pink insects hovering around it resembling dragonflies. Kaylee dismounted her horse and walked over to the pond. "What are you doing?" Jack asked. "Refilling our water." She replied. "Is it clean?" Karen asked. "Of course! It's magical." Kaylee said, scooping the water in a leather pouch. "Magical? How?" Asked Susie with deep interest. "This forest is ruled by fairies." Said Kaylee as she closed up the pouch. "Fairies?!" Susie exclaimed. She had always loved fairies and magic. "Yep! No one is allowed except those they trust. Like me." Kaylee replied looking around the magical forest. "Wow. . ." Said Susie, looking in all directions as if to see little pixies flying around. "How come this isn't ruled by Zachariah?" Asked Jack. "Well. . . It kind of is." Said Kaylee. "What do you mean?" Karen asked. "Zachariah rules the fairies but the fairies rule the forest. You see, it's the fairies who told him about the prophecy. But they never meant for this to happen. After that, he treated them like friends and fairies only played along so they wouldn't be harmed. But they secretly helped in the uprising without him knowing. Because of them, we almost won." Kaylee told them, sadness clouding her eyes.

Chapter Eleven
Chapter Eleven: The Shiny Snail

"Wow." Said Karen. "I can't believe this all happened. And I'm supposed to defeat Zachariah? If he has magic, then how am I supposed to do that?" "You have magic too." Said Kaylee. "What?!" Said Jack, Karen and Susie almost at once. "Yes. You don't know how to use it yet, but you will. Your the chosen one." Karen couldn't believe this. And didn't. She may have been able to believe everything else, but she couldn't believe she could defeat Zachariah and use magic doing it. "We should stop to eat soon." Jack said, changing the subject. "Good idea." Said Kaylee. "I know a place we can eat."

Karen decided to try to get the thought of defeating Zachariah out of her head. She looked around and saw trees with unusual colors and smells and houses old fashioned like Kaylee's. She saw blue hills with brightly colored flowers. The sun was an unusual bright orange. She saw green lakes with old fashioned sail boats. The sky was a beautiful light blue until she saw dark grey clouds drawing closer and closer. "Oh, rats!" Said Kaylee. "We need to go faster." She led them down a dirt road and Karen saw a wooden sign with the words, "THE SHINY SNAIL" I wonder where we're going. Karen thought.

I while later, they stopped in front of a very old, wooden building. It had three small steps leading up to the door and a large sign with chipped paint above it with the words, "THE SHINY SNAIL" "Here we are!" Said Kaylee.

They all dismounted their horses and Jack helped Susie with her's. They walked up the steps and Kaylee opened the door. They walked in to see a dimly lighted, large room. There were wooden tables with grim people sitting at them. They were holding drinks and were chatting and would occasionally laugh at a joke someone else at their table said. There was a bar with leather seats lined up in front and a barkeeper that looked like he'd rather not be there. "Should we even be here?" Karen asked. It didn't look like the best place for kids. "Oh, it's fine. There are families here." Kaylee replied. "This is an inn?" Jack asked. "Yep!" Kaylee said. "Well, you didn't tell us much." Said Susie.

They followed Kaylee over the the counter and the barkeeper walked to them, carrying a glass and a rag. "What can I do for you kids." He said, gloomily. "Lunch." Said Kaylee. He handed them a menu and walked to a man across the counter. They looked at the menu and as Jack, Karen and Susie expected, there was nothing they recognized. Kaylee must have noticed their difficulty in choosing and pointed out her favorites. After they had ordered and were given their food, they went to find a free table and sat down with their food. It tasted good and felt wonderful after their long, adventurous morning. Then, after they all finished, they payed, mounted their horses and continued on their journey.

Chapter Ten
Chapter Ten: Zachariah's Story

Kaylee had explained to them how she lived with her father in that cabin and worked at the armory. She used to live with her mother too, but she had died three years ago. She never had any siblings. She'd always been an only child.

It seemed like several hours had gone by and they were still riding their horses. Karen grabbed her cell phone from her purple jacket pocket to see the time and she went pale. It had died! "Um. . . Jack?" She said. "Yeah." Jack replied. "Please tell me your phone hasn't died." Karen said. " Jack took his cell phone out of his pants pocket and pushed the power button. "Well?" Karen asked. "Dead." Jack said with a sigh. "What?! What are we going to do now?!" Karen exclaimed, starting to freak out. "It's not that big of a deal." Jack said, much more relaxed. "But now we can't call anyone or tell what the time is!" Said Karen. "It's seven." Said Kaylee. "H-how do you know?" Karen asked, rather surprised and guessing people in this land didn't have cell phones. "Because of the direction of the sun." Kaylee replied, as if it were quit obvious. "Of course. . ." Karen said, as if she had known. This must have been how people knew the time here. Much less accurate, of course, but it's how people knew the time before clocks were invented. "Well, where we come from, there's something called clocks--" Karen started to say before Kaylee interrupted, saying, "We have clocks. We've had them for a long time." She looked over at Karen, her green eyes filled with amusement. "We're not that old fashioned." She said with a small chuckle. "Uh-- sorry." Karen said, feeling pretty embarrassed. She hated it when that happened. "It's fine. Your not used to it here." Kaylee said, sweetly. "I would have a clock, but I can't afford one." She said. "Well. . . Are there cars here?" Karen asked. Kaylee hesitated, then said, "That's a long story." "Well, can you tell us?" Susie said. Kaylee sighed, then started. "It has to do with Zachariah. You know he's a wizard, right? Well, like most stories, he's a really old wizard, so he was born a really long time ago. Before he took over the land, he missed how it was as a child. Before the curse, there were cars, planes, phones and most things you people have. We were modern. We were even inventing things you people don't have. Zachariah didn't like it like that. He missed the way it was when he was a child. And that's when he decided he wanted to rule and make like that.

"Our president was Kevin Lander, and Zachariah. . . Stabbed him." Kaylee paused before continuing, "He made the police think it wasn't him, then messed with everyone's minds to make them vote for him as the new president. You see, his parents were a witch and a wizard, and they had taught him magic as a child. After he became president, everything changed. Everything "modern" was burned and lots of people lost a their jobs.

"After that, he had heard of a prophecy. A child would be born and at a certain age, would over-through him and save the land. He went to his parents and they gave him a curse. A curse that would freeze time, making everyone unable to grow or give birth. That way the chosen one wouldn't be born. But what he didn't know, was that the prophecy was too true to be stopped with a simple curse. And then. . . She was born." Kaylee paused and looked at Karen. "You."

I'm really loving this story so far, but one thing that bothers me, every time the speaker changes you're supposed to start a new paragraph. Example

The way learned how to write is when multiple people r talking about the same thing, it's one paragraph. But I appreciate u pointing out mistakes, even if I don't agree they r. And I'm glad ur liking the story <3
